yeah i gave my notice as well and they let me finish my 2 weeks and got me back to nlr and i was given a rehire recommendation as well,and everything went fine for me,but for some reason they treated my friend like crap,maybe it was because he was at the Madison yard when he gave his notice.

It's pretty hard to lose 100% of a glass haul. They kept us going at combined even when jb and schnieder cut our rate drasticaly.

And...it is policy at some carriers to release you when notice is tendered.
Some feel you've made the decision to go so go. That way there cannot be any question or speculation AND you don't have time to spread dissent.
I watched another driver tender his 2 weeks and they released him because he became a security risk..... really? So when my turn came to leave I returned the favor on his behalf. Some how they didn't appreciate it. -
That is true...the loss of an account or 2 is just normal business...it happens. But when you start losing the accounts the are the "bread and butter" it best to just cut your losses and quit while you're ahead...as many companies have done done in the past. (such as Metler, FAST, Schneider...do you see a pattern here?)
There is enough glass freight out there to keep moving...and the "up and coming" company doesn't have all that many trucks...yet. (they are in a growth spurt though) -

.....I've never worked for Maverick and I don't personally know any of the drivers involved in this situation BUT there are a few things to consider from the trucking company's P.O.V. A Driver who has every intention of leaving the employ of a company just "might" have some personal issues with the company or one (or more) of it's other employees. Therefore, in the eyes of the company, this soon to be leaving driver just "might" have some idea of having some sort of "personal injury" that "might be the employers fault" and so they begin to think that with discretion being the better part of valor, it just might be the best for everyone concerned if said soon to be ex-employee just go ahead and resign immediately.
The reason I say this is because I just learned that my current employer just shuttered one of it's numerous terminals (in another state) due to lack of productivity with absoltely no notice given to any of the drivers. When we in our terminal asked why those drivers (and warehouse staff) had not been given proper notice, we were told that last time they decided to close a facility and gave notice, all of a sudden there was a rash of "workers comp" injuries occuring at that very plant LOL! -
I thought Maverick was an excellent movie.

Never give a trucking company "2 weeks notice".
If you plan to leave, wait until you go home for your scheduled hometime.
Clean out your truck when you get back to the terminal, or where ever you turn the trucks in.
Have them look at it to make sure it is not damaged. take pictures if needed.
You do not "owe" these companies any notice. They will not give you any notice if they decide to get rid of you. -
Excatly what i said to one company why I don't give a two week notice. He replied back your really putting me in a rough spot. I said I know how that is when you told me I could run over thanksgiving instead of going home and i sat for four days in california. adios!
