And why would you think otherwise? These are the people who want 88,000 gross weights, more driving hours and less time off on the 34.

They are the mouth piece of the carrier.....

Looks like the big money in trucking still wants free work out of the driver.
Nonthing new there. Sometimes goverment intervention can be a good thing, in my opinion anyway...

The American Trucking Associations says detention time is an issue to be negotiated between carriers and shippers, and the federal government should stay out of it.

ATA's Board of Directors voted to oppose efforts at regulating detention time - the time drivers and trucks wait to load or unload their cargo.

"ATA and its members value the time of our drivers," ATA President and CEO Bill Graves said following the board's decision. "However, federal intervention into this area would have significant impacts on the contractual agreements between carriers and shippers."The ATA Has never ever been the "voice" of the Truck Driver!

Government should help enforce contracts not make them. Government has no place between consenting people or companies until one party defrauds the other.

ATA has always been and will continue to be the independent (non-union) truckers worst enemy, but most of the public and the goverment think they represent us all.

They don't want govt intervention because they already are charging for detention against shippers & receivers but the govt is trying to force drivers to get paid for being held up. The ata doesn't want it because their members will no longer be able to pocket all that $$$ & not pay the driver!
