Hi all, just got assigned to a different truck, it has a 3406 cat. My question is how to determine which model it is, the tag is worn pretty bad, all I can make out is the 3406. The tag says its 475 horse-490 max. The truck is a 2000 year model. Thanks in advance.

Im not sure about this but I believe some inspections stations required that I.D. engine plate on there. In California it's MANDATORY. Isn't a federal issue though ?

Try the easy way - hook up computer with ET and read ECM data...
The other way - truck ID sticker -
Call the dealer with the vin. It will be no problem. As long as it is the original engine. Qiuckest and easiest way.

If it's a 2000 model, it would be a 3406E motor.

Below turbo engine serial number is stamped into the block if you have insulation then there is a small window to left of turbo.
