C&S as an overall company is mean spirited towards it drivers and could provide unwarranted expense for the owner-operator.

C&S is dangerous. Very few of their docks supply DOT required blocks to chalk the trailer axe, and none that I know of have trailer bar locks. The C&S safety solution is to detach both trailer brake glad-hands, which in their defense is not too unreasonable even if archaic.

C&S is routine in overextending beyond the 2 hour limit without paying any sort of detention. It is not uncommon to be held 6 hours or so while the trailer is unloaded at the door without the least apology.

Most Drivers are essentially required to pay for lumper service--which is not cheap--because of "safety regulations"--steel toed shoes and "certification to use a pallet jack"-- that are virtually impossible to satisfy.

C&S doesn't reimburse brokers or carriers for lumper fees. Despite that this IS the customer facility, this company forces carriers (and brokers to my knowledge) to overlook such unanticipated expenses. Thus, it steals from the business it works with.

I've never had an issue, but we drop there instead of live unloading, so that might explain it. The one in Upper Marlboro, MD will even let me sleep there in their staging area.

I was an hour from home, but wasted my whole friday night there. I was there maybe about 8 hours.

usually when i have a C & S load, it is not on pallets, it's just stacked on the floor.

they do that to make you hire the lumpers. they come in with their special clamp lift, and get it. but you would have to do it by hand.

they could just as easily have put it on pallets in the first place.

C & S has always been a PITA. You just have to deal with their BS as any other dock.
