Good luck with this.
An insurance company can find any reason to not allow a company to hire a person.
They can also have stricter requirements on the waiver issue as well.
It will be interesting to see if it ever gets a successful claim on this. -
i have a freind that is on a weight loss program and after 3 weeks into the program his doctor took him off of his meds,it is the bad foods that we eat that screw up alot of people, he lost 29 pounds in 5 weeks and is doing fantastic.

Go get a good doctor that specializes in diabetes, and get it under control. You may be able to control it strictly with diet or pills. I have been controling mine for 17 years while driving truck. Get used to getting a 1 year physical card but it beats not being able to drive.Weight loss and exercise are keys to controlling it. If you are overweight they are having good luck with the lapband, even reversing the diabetes.I weigh 145 so weight isn't always an indicator. good luck

OK, a couple of things to think about.
First, there are 3 types of diabetes. We can forget about diabetes insipidus, its way too complicated, and highly unlikely you have it.
Diabetes type 1 tends to start anywhere from a preschooler to aged around 35 years.
Diabetes 2 is the most common in the so-called civilised world. (it doesnt exist in 'primitive' countries with a rice-and-vegetable diet, it only happens places where there is excess sugar and fat in the diet.)
Its most common in the US, although the new 'wealth' in China is making them catch up fast.
It can be controlled to a degree by a sensible diet, and adequate excercise.
But once its established, the docs have to add meds to keep the sugar down, they ususally start with metformin and a gliclazide, although there are newer combo meds out there too.
If the blood sugar still doesnt settle, ( or if you just cant eat sensibly), then they will add insulin as a last resort.
a random blood sugar reading doesnt really help them with their diagnosis, it will depend what you ate in the last two hours. A "fasting " reading can be better, or most likely they will want an HbA1C, which somehow shows an aggregate reading for the last 12 weeks.
Hope this helps

First, I have to take issue with the idea that fats cause issues with diabetes. Especially when a high fat content in a meal will blunt jumps in glucose. Sugar is your culprit. Not fat.
Also, the size and speed of what you eat has a large impact on a glycemic response. Slow your eating down, and drink water to dilute digestion, and you'll have less bumps in your sugars.
As for trying to get your waiver to run interstate with Type 1 diabetes, you could always talk to an insurance company about having something like the DexCom SEVEN continuous glucose monitor installed in your truck. It checks your glucose levels every 5 minutes, tells you which way your sugars are going, and is set up for a low glucose and a high glucose alert. -
I did not say that fat causes Diabetes, just that the general high-fat-and high-sugar meals of the 'civilised world' are responsible. Its hard to seperate the two, they are part of the fast food culture.

Although high fat and high carb do seem to be hand in hand, one is a problem, and the other really isn't. If people stop eating things high in sugar, and avoid "white" carbs, they would see a definite change for the better.
Here's a good reason to avoid "white" carbs, taken from The 4 Hour Body:
"Chlorine Dioxide, one of the chemicals used to bleach flour(even if later made brown again, a common trick), combines with residual protein in most of these foods to form alloxan. Researchers use alloxan in lab rats to induce diabetes. That's right - it's used to produce diabetes. This is bad news if you eat anything white or "enriched".
Fats aren't your enemies. In many cases, fats are your friends. Simple carbs, and white carbs, on the other hand, are your enemy. -
I have diabetes Two, wich I am sure that you have the same problem. I taked a medication called Metformin wich is common, cut out sugar and keep a balance diet and things are working out well. The trick is in controling what you eat and suggest seeing a physician. If not this problem can grow into being dependent on insulin that will end your driving carrier.
