When I was in the hospital, I had to stop taking my Metformin for 4 days because it reacted with the dye they injected in me. The RN used insulin shots them days. She even made a comment I needed to be on insulin.

I told my primary care physician that and he added Glyburide to take with the Metformin. Twice I had episodes of low sugar. I started feeling real bad and would start sweating real bad. I immediately checked my sugar.
The first time it was 85 and I ate some candy and immediately felt better. The second time was worse and the reading was 91. I didn't have any sweets with me and I had to call my sister to bring me some.

My question is why am I going into sugar shock with a reading of 91? I'm scared to take the Glyburide now. I only take it now when I have them high readings of 190+.

Also how does one distinguish whether you need pills or insulin?

Can I ask how you are taking your pills? Are you taking two of each in the morning etc?

When I started my new pills, Metformin and Glimeprime I was on two 1000mg formins in the morning and 1 4mg Glimeprime int he morning. My A1C at the time was 11.8.

I was having low spikes about mid day and had to eat something to get past the spike. If your body is used to high suger levels then normal readings will give you the low feelings, which is not good.

I did some self adjustments on my meds and split them up and took half of each in the morning and the other half in the evening. This cured my problem of low spikes but is still doing the job of dropping my sugar levels. No more need of "snacks" during the day which helps with the weight loss which is also needed to control my type 2.

My last A1C was 8.2 and my average daily sugar levels have dropped down to that 100 mark rather then the 250+ mark. I still get hgiher spikes once and awhile if I cheat on the snacks.

I eat twice a day. I usually wait to I eat around 10am or so. Then I take 1000mg Metformin and 1/2 of a Glyburide 5mg. Then around 8pm I'll do it again.

How do you fix that? I think I do good at 105, but it's hard to maintain it.
I go to the doctor Monday. Just trying to understand what's going on before I get there. I'm doing something wrong or I'm on the wrong medicine. That RN seen something to make the comment I needed to be on insulin.

The only thing I can add is, that you should eat more often that 2 times a day to even out your sugars. I am bad at that also. But I find that when I do eat smaller meals or snacks more often I don't have the highs & lows in my BG readings.

I have been educated in this for the past few years and the ticket to my loosing 126 pouns was eating the right foods and eating six times a day, like a Nascar driver comming in for a fuel stop and putting the best burning fuel in my sytem.
