Correct!!!! Park on the shoulder of an Interstate in Va. and let a trooper come by. You will come away with a ticket and rightly so. Far too many treat Interstates as any routes. How many times have you seen 4-wheelers pull over just to change drivers or let Fido go pee??? I don't care if there aren't any signs, it is still against the law to park on a shoulder of an Interstate unless you are having an emergency.

Can't find a place to sleep? A shoulder of an Interstate is not the place to do it.

Looking at the pictures the truck was far away from where any vehicle traveling down the interstate would be. Also far away from where the State Trooper would have been making any type of high speed maneuver. It's a tragedy but I don't see how the truck driver is in any way responsible. Heck, if he had been driving down the road and saw this chase approaching in his mirror it would have been a good idea for him to get as far from the travel lanes as he was.

Drove by there on Route 1 yesterday and they have a State Police cruiser draped in black with flowers on top of windshield wipers on the front yard of the Waterloo Barracks for the State Police, Jessup, MD.

Here's WJLA TV's (ABC network affiliate, Washington, DC) coverage of this story ...

Finally someone actually thinks about this rather than jumping on the 'truck driver bash' bandwagon. My thoughts exactally.
The driver wasnt on the shoulder of the travel lanes, he was on the shoulder of the rest area RAMP. Did the motorcyclist get off and speed through the rest area prompting the trooper to chase him? Was there any evidence of the trooper spinning out and then slamming into USA?

Its sad indeed that a man lost his life and his children and wife will be without their dad/husband, but I would venture a guess that there is more to this story and I wouldnt be suprised if the story comes out altered to place maximum blame on the trucker.

Yeah you're right, the USA truck was parked way off the road onto the rest area ramp that you'd think he'd be out of harms way.

If I have to stop like that, I always try to stop on the ONRAMP instead of the offramp. That should minimize the chance of such deadly accidents!

Hmmm, the trooper hit the truck not the other way around. Look at the position of the truck and the angle the car hit it at....any lawyer would eat up the MD Police alive on this case. I hope the driver dosent have to suffer due to TWO SPEED MANIACS.

High speed chases open the door to horrible accidents like this. It's much worse in the city tho. I don't judge the chase and I don't see how the truck driver is to blame for this but someone always grabs at straws and points fingers when the real guilty party cannot be found, that is they take the next closest thing. Let's hope the truck driver is not railroaded unjustly; he has already been punished by his own suffering and will be for ever. The only guy that got out unscathed is the one that deserves the wrath of everyone, the motorcycle driver. I hope they find him and serve him whatever justice he has coming and don't waste a lot of time doing it.

Strange ... no one mentions the fact that it may have been a suicide.

Eveyone is blameing the trucker for parking on the shoulder of the interstate when any one we half a brain can see the truck is on the shoulder of the entrance ramp to the rest area far away from the travel lanes of the interstate. Just speculation but my guess would be the bike cut through there to lose the cop and the cop tried it to at to high a speed and lost control and hit the truck.
