Get a local job. I didnt go to school to get my CDL.When I got my CDL I jumped right onto a local job hauling gravel, bullrock ,and base material for $18.50 an hour.I get off when the pits close at 5pm and I go home to enjoy some cold beer, get a good nights sleep and Im off every weekend. I guess cause Im one of the chosen few.haha

Weekends off??? I had a local job and never had weekends off. If the chance came up I'd take it for sure and you'd have to wait too. However, you're in a big city so I suggest you get out and look. Go door to door until you get what you want. Your chances are better there than most.

If you HAVE to be home every weekend then trucking is not for you!

There are to many things that can go wrong for anyone running OTR or regional to be home every week end.

You can be home MOST weekends working for the right outfit.

Running local you may be able to be off on weekends but if the company runs seven days a week you will be bottom man and then you will work every weekend.

My opinion is just that an opinion good luck in your hunt !!

Hmmm....wonder how that worked out for him.

Seems to me that our Ms. 1nonly isn't the one having trouble "getting it."

What part of "over the road" do you not understand? By its very nature, "over the road" is not conducive to weekends home. Weekends home describes, at the very most, "regional" work. If you "need" to be home every weekend, OTR is not for you. But, let's see what you find with your lengthy experience level and vast knowledge of the industry.
