If your going to stick with flatbeds, I recommend a long wheelbase truck and if you need a sleeper, get a short flat top one.

Wildcat74 looks pretty young, I think he can handle it, not to mention he already does equipment moves.

I'm 26 and 6'5" and 300 with a lot of years of football under my belt, I think I'll be good in the back strength department.

    Diesel Dave,

Have some questions. Would a double bunk Aerocab get worse fuel mileage than a single bunk Aerodyne flat? I figure haulin flatbed and all, that the double bunk Aero Cab would be more resistance when draggin a flatbed opposed to an enclosed trailer. So I figure the Aerodyne flat should be a little better in regards to MPG when hauling flatbed, or a lowboy. Is this correct?

    Thanks,
    Vampire

I would stick with a flat top, less wind resistance, besides thats whats in right now unless your gonna run with a co-driver and he wants he's on bunk.

    Vampire Thanks this.

well ya gotta remember everything you haul on a flatbed aint flat, wind resitance shot to heck with a flattop and a 8 foot tall load. besides that extra bunk makes a nice shelf for your microwave, refrig , printer and scanner, and the storage tote with the food.

I see BlackW900 gets around 6.5 - 7.5 and he drags a flatbed. Looks like he has an aerocab with the double bunks. I would of course expect to get less than that. The added space would be a real plus. Not sure what size sleeper he has. Sure looks like a nice truck. Am gonna have to look into this more.

Diesel Dave and others, what is the minimum wheel base you would recommend for flat bedding? I think 270"'s should be fine, but do correct me if you folks believe otherwise. Me personally, I would get nothing less than a 3/8" frame. I have seen a few trucks I was interested in, but they came up short on the desired frame thickness. It may mean some extra weight, but I like the added strength. Thanks for all the info folks.

The extra thickness on a frame i would only worry about if I was doing heavy haul otherwise stick to the standard. Wheelbase, mine is 265, 270 is is fine. BTW, what are your intentions of hauling ?
