I am building this FL70 into my daily driver but also plan on using it for a camping rig.
I shortened the frame 12 feet and added a 2001 Dodge dually bed. I have had to do a lot of other smaller tasks but so far the project is coming along very nicely. I just loaded my 2005 Lance Max camper on it to check for fit and to build tie-downs.

Here is a photo of the camper on the truck with the slide out extended. A photo of the rear of the truck with an empty bed. And, the cool thing I did with the gas door on the dually bed, I put the aux air outlet behind it.
If you guys want I have build photos but it is mainly just frame shortening and moving the axle... and changing the rear gears... shortening the exhaust... building the bumpers etc...

Nice!
Next project...
Raising the header to install taller garage doors...

here are a couple of pics with the frame long and the used bed sitting on it so I could determine the height and how much to shorten the frame/move the axle...

here are a couple pics after moving the axle, but with the frame still hanging out the back. Imagine the rear end swing if you had to drive it like this...

frame cut, and the bed riser sitting in-place. I made the riser for the bed out of the inner frame rails i removed from the back end. I then had to cut the riser rails down the middle long ways to take 1 1/4" of height out of them.. I then used some of the "extra" crossmembers in the riser as well.. When you shorten a gloved frame 12 feet you end up with a lot of extra heavy metal...
I have a plasma cutter, commercial torch and an awesome welder, oh and a good size (1500 sq ft.) shop.Attached Files:

bed mounted, and bumper made. I used some framerail material again to make the structure for the bumper and then covered it all in 3/16 floor plate (diamond plate).
I used about $300 in grade 8 bolts in the project. Mainly to move the axle and replace the "huck" bolts...
in the interior I made an overhead console and installed the cb and new stereo, and speakers of course. I dont have interior photos yet, but it is mainly stock with dual bostrom's and the factory bench in the rear. I am looking for a "jack knife" couch for the rear so it can be a bed or couch depending on what mood the wife is in.
Which led me to tint the rear windows limo black.Attached Files:
