How near do we have to get? I'm 56 and I feel as good as I did at 30....Funny 'cause no one ever thought I'd make it to 30 much less 56!
I was a bit of a wild one...![]()

I've got hand pain, shoulder pain, back pain, and other assorted ailments. I'll be 61 the first week of July. guess I ought to make my next job sitting at the lake fishing, but I just can't see myself sitting around all the time. So i guess I'll keep going till I can pass the physical anymore and find me a local job for something to do.

From what I've been told by the ER Doc (he's a family practitioner at the local clinic... very competent IMHO) the test will only determine whether I am a candidate for the surgery... if I am not there is no cure or treatment that will help me. I will slowly lose my memory and control of my bodily fluids and the ability to walk... kinda like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's all rolled into one.
After that I will assume room temperature... might be a year... maybe three. They can't say.
There are two ways to fix the symptoms and lead a fairly normal life... I hope I'm a candidate for one or the other.
I didn't have a stroke... but the deal I have puts extra pressure on the brain. Right now it feels like I have a bad sinus infection... I can feel the pressure in the front of my face and head. Nothing severe but I know it's there. -
blackw900, you will probably make it past 90, but the ones that said you wont, probably wont be around.
Working Class Patriot and Ducks Thank this. -
I know very much about Alzheimer's, We took care of my mother in law for 8 years, Our lives were on hold for that 8 years, and I do not regret one second of taking care of mom, with my wife at all. I really hope and Pray you are the right candidate for the surgery. Listen to your body, if something is wrong and you feel like now is the time to see somebody, like right away, Do it. My wifes, Ex-mother in law is in a nursing home, at 94. Everyone knows my wife there, she spends so much time there. We just went to Walmart, and bought her Diapers, $120.00 for 5 weeks worth. We have the money, she doesn`t. Her birthday was Saturday, just turned 94. There was one guy in the nursing home, his family said they were going to be there Saturday, to take him out, he got all dressed up , telling all the others in the nursing home that his family was on there way up to take him out, they never showed up. He sat by the door and waited and waited, No one showed up. My wife took him in his wheel chair outside for a walk around the nursing home. Not sure how that made him feel inside.Last edited: May 30, 2011

Got pinned between a dump truck I was working on and the counterweight on a roadgrader behind me when the boss' son showed up drunk and started the truck in gear. Lucky it wasn't the big ol Reo diesel he did the same with months later. Put that one right through a brick wall.
Weather don't bother them much, knees ache a bit when I get real tired or been driving too long but I can still do the important stuff like outrun the wife when she gets mad at me.
Heck, it's nothing atall compared to what our soldiers go through. God's blessings on each and every one of them.
Shoot, y'all know all us old truckers have banged ourselves up just doing our jobs; falling off trailers, going airborn with tarps, etc, etc. Crap just happens and we keep on going. That's trucking..... no special thing y'know?Wargames Thanks this. -
Your right, about what our soldiers went through. I have a friend, got shot up pretty bad in Vietnam. He stood up one time, took his shirt off and showed everyone what happen to him in Vietnam. Another one POW in Vietnam. One minute Im happy, and thinking about how nice today is going to be, picnic, food, drinks, and then I talk about Vietnam, now, not happy.

7 more years myself i think or maybe lol. Kind of depends on the way the industry goes. From the looks at it this new CSA RULES they seem to be trying harder and harder to push out the older drivers.
I guess to make it easyer to control the new younger drivers and illegal drivers they seem to want out on the road.
