I won't trash Todd on here, he tried to make things right in the end. But I had made my decision and I'm happy with the move. There would seem to be some communication breakdowns when someone goes on vacation. Twice when Todd was out on vacation, my scheduled home time seemed to fall between the cracks. He apologized for both of those instances but alas, I had already found a better job.
I left with a great recommendation from USA and was told I would be welcome to return if I chose. My best advice for any new driver at USA is to always stand up for yourself. Don't let them push you past your HOS or home time.

I would agree about home time. Stand up for yourself. Its a struggle each time I have went home I simply do not budge. That's one thing I would change if I could about this place.

Like how much difference? $50 per paycheck? more/less? Also @taxtime, was it better to not have perdiem taken out and then get it back at end of year? Thanks for advice, and you can pm me if you don't wanna put it out here.
-
It depends on the amount of pay. It may seem minimal but at tax time you get $56/per day while your on the road. You can't claim both. The tax deal is far better. Also, if you get hurt and need workers comp and are awarded a weekly amount, they base that on taxable income, not non taxable. Its just a better deal, in my view anyway.
venne Thanks this. -
Thanks Harry...I'm probably changing mine soon. Never have time to call tax guy, and I usually forget too. I tend to do that a lot. I have CRS(can't remember 5hit)lol

USA is a good company. They tell you what to expect. If you do not fend for yourself it is easy to get lost in the wash. I am sure this is true in any business. They are busy helping the workers who work.
I stop at the terminals and I see all the high maintenance drivers. Yesterday my truck brokedown. Another kind driver is going to pick me up this morning and give me a ride home. I was told I will have a truck waiting for me when I get back on duty Tuesday. I average 2800 miles week. Sure I break down but Its not USA fault but they do compensate you for it.
If you are not getting the miles you want talk to other drivers who are getting miles find out some of the small moves that help your week. How to log legal and conserve your hours. The older crowd that has been there forever, you see them every once in a while. They are always tickled to show a younger guy some tricks.goodchoice10 and venne Thank this. -
YES JESS.......YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!! Finally someone who sees it like I do.
This place is busy helping the workers. Its so true that small "tweeks" in your weekly routine will help your overall mileage. Stay away from the terminals unless its a necessity. Too much negative stuff going on there. Most of its bull as well.
GREAT POST JESS!!venne Thanks this. -
my statement was true. b/c the one 9400I that i was in was a 97. the prostar that had its dash lit up like a xmas tree when i got it ( mechanics said tnot to worry about the lights n beepers) was an 05.. which promptly crapped the bed.

thinking you needed to read a bit closer
"but generally the issue wasn't fixed unless it was changing tires."
when ever i was in roanoke there was usually 10 drivers hanging out there.. at least 10 to 25 in vandalia.. average about 15 in west memphis. but a half way decent shop. never made it to van buren except to test out.
-
So how are you liking it so far? I just started my orientation today in Vandalia, OH. I'm hoping things go smoothly so I can get with my trainer, and then get on the road solo. 3200 miles in your 1st week? That is awesome! Is that average for you now, or does it change?
Hope to see ya on the road!
Take care!
