I don't see where I said anything in there, about knowing everything. Just trying to give the guy some insight, from my position so far. That is possible seeing as I have been through USA training, and am now a driver for them. Of course I am a NewB, and know #### well I don't know all there is to know. I catch myself about 2-3 times a week, from making mistakes, but luckily am paying enough attention to fix them before they escalate into accidents.
So I see you been driving for 35 years. Did you become a d!ck right off the bat, or did it take you the whole 35 years of your career
-
No, I just learned from my mistakes and didn't PRETEND to to "enlighten" others with my vast knowledge of 2 whole weeks..Enjoy those poverty wages ! I'm sure you will be a "lifestyle" driver !! Rather be a dick, than a know it all little prick !!
-
Maybe you need to re read the op, and then what I typed. Break it down real slow.
He ask was all the trucking companies bad, because he sees horror stories everywhere. I said I went thru USA training and it's been good so far. Where in there did I imply that I was a Super Trucker???
You can throw rocks all you want, and try and twist what I said into whatever you wanna imagine I said, but in the end you just wanna come in here with your old ##### talking like you're something great. In the mean time you have contributed nothing to the OP other than mucking up his thread with useless garbage and babble.
So why don't you take you Geritol for the day, and take your old decrepid cowboy ##### somewhere else... -
....that's hoffa at his finest right there, hostility and rhetoric.....very nice!
the person was asking for insight and its a good to hear something from someone who just went through the process. Are we not are brothers keeper?
After 35 years I would hope I will still feel passion for my career to help another. -
Millis was a good suggestion. A lot of the companies that you have probably looked at suck. Just like any other career, there are good companies and bad. There is a short list of BAD companies that have deservedly earned their reputation. I will list them, but don't take my word for it, ask around. Or check Rip Off Report, etc. Run away from Swift, Werner, Prime, CR England, Covenant, JB Hunt, and Heartland Express. You will find some dummies who will tell you different about these companies. Go ahead and believe 'em. You'll find out the hard way like lots of other drivers who wouldn't listen.
I drove for 3 OTR companies in 9 years. Millis, Landstar and Shaffer. Shaffer was the worst of the 3 and I would recommend them every day of the week and twice on Sunday before any of the above.
How guys perceive a company depends on their experience. I met guys at Shaffer that thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. Then I would find out they came from Swift by way of Werner. For the most part, big companies suck. You are just a number that they micromanage to death. If I had to do a big company, it would probably be Schneider.
Good luck. -
All companies have their own flavor of BS from the mom n pops all the way up to the megas. What flavor is most tolerable to you? That's the question that needs to be answered.
I work under the flag of the largest of the megas. I do not feel like a "number" or a simple piece of equipment. When I was a company driver, I had some family stuff come up that was pretty serious. They kept me local long enough to deal with it and made sure I was good to go before turning me loose again. When I call in, I talk to the same two or three people each time and they never ask for my truck number. They know my voice and can pull up my information without asking.
There is one good thing about these large companies: stability. Their checks don't bounce and you get paid on time, every time. You are expected to do your job. It's that simple.
This is not a field to be a prima donna and b**** about every little thing that might not go your way. Unless you work for YRC or ABF. There, you can drive crappy equipment governed at 61mph and haul trailers that lose wheels. Then, when something happens, holler it's not your fault because you get paid to drive. If they want the equipment maintained, pay the shop guys to do it.
Do your own research and make up your own mind. Then, ignore the hecklers. You will learn who to listen to and who just wants to stir things up. -
Don't worry about it kid;what he says don't mean nothin'.You can tell he's ust a little worm who is tryin' to make himself look big by trying to make someone else look small.

Injun, regarding your quote of Giorgio, you don't have to suffer the pain of working for a bad company to acquire knowledge. Talking to their drivers is very useful. Even driver's that don't bash the company can tell you something. When they tell you crap they have to put up with (even if they don't think they are putting up with anything) you get an idea. Companies don't get bad reputations by accident. And it's not just because they are big companies. Crete and Schneider are big companies, and while they have a lot of corporate BS, they usually are not group with the usual bottom feeders.
Also, you said that you work for the largest of the megas, but your pic shows a Swift truck. Did you move to Schneider and forget to take a new pic? -
Schneider has roughly 12,000 power units. Swift has over 16,000.
Regarding Schneider's reputation. It wasn't five years ago that Schneider was the butt of all the jokes. They worked on their reputation and brought it up. Before that, it was JB Hunt. Before that, Werner.it's just Swift's turn for now.
You can think what you want to about whether I know I'm being "used" or not. Swift isn't my only go-round. I ran independently, under the authority of a tiny mom n pop. While the owners were the best, nicest people I've known, the free-fall took their little company out. After trying it out elsewhere for a while, I've come to the conclusion that Swift's flavor of BS is most tolerable to me. I will continue with them at least until I hold the title to this truck in my own hand and only if the economy is back up and running, I may decide to purchase my own authority. I already have experience on that side of the business.
In these times, I choose to hitch my future to that of a larger, more stable entity than Taiowa. For now, I am reliant on Swift for freight. They, in turn, rely on me to deliver it on time, with no damage either to their property or to the property of our customers. I am happy to comply. I have a more symbiotic relationship with Swift. But that is only because I negotiated it for myself. A brand newbie with no pror experience with Swift would not have been able to do the same.
