Well, I don't typically like to throw my two cents in when people I've never met have such a personal issue with something. I am a young guy and I got into trucking as soon as I could. I started out local with an ltl company and then got put on the line. I was by about fifteen years the youngest guy on the line, my dispatcher and I had a great relationship because I understand that I am there to serve my company's needs (within reason). I guess what I am trying to get to is that when you are a company driver, which I am, you have to understand that you are there to work. If you work diligently you make the company money, make yourself money and create your own job security. I don't care to be judgmental because us members only get 1 side of the coin. If you are new somewhere it would behoove you to make a name for yourself. You want to be the guy that is efficient, clean, punctual, and proud about using the company standard as the absolut lowest acceptable level of performance. If you cannot do these things, buy your own truck and make your own rules. If everythink happened the way you say it happened, I'm neutral there, it is unfortunate but, that's the way it goes sometimes! Best of luck!

To get back to Roehl's reputation: I worked for Roehl for 13 months. I was in the week on- week off program swapping seats with another driver. The only problem of note was a day I spent sitting in a truckstop spending $15 faxing papers back and forth cuz the ones I had filled out were lost. My DM was a know it all young lady so of course this was my fault. I said absolutely nothing to irritate her- I know how things work. I never said or did anything not even a tone of voice.

Take note: Roehl is safety concious. I mean real safety concious. They bring drivers in on a regular basis for safety meetings and film showings, etc. and they pay you for this too.

Anyway, to start my week's work they had me start late (noon) on the Monday, hook a load and bring it up to Marshfield to see my DM. (I was out of the Gary, Ind. terminal) Too late of course, I spent the night and saw her next morning. She took me into a small lunchroom and put a paper on the table in front of me and said here sign this. I read it. It said I would never ever never never EVER allow ANYTHING to occupy the lane in front of me for a distance of 2500 feet! Of course its impossible to do that. I told her I can't sign. She took me to see her supervisor. To make a long story short- they didn't like my attitude and so they gonna let me go. They did however pay for a taxi to take me 30 miles to the Greyhound station as well as bus fare back to Gary. Safety? Bullshine- they gonna leave you out to dry in order to preserve their precious insurance rate!

Well, car54hereIam -- sorry to hear about that visit to the little room with your DM. It was somewhere in The Twilight Zone. OK, I'm mixing my classic TV metaphors here. What a major correction it would be if Dispatchers and Managers and Safety people actually had experience driving trucks. They're on another planet.

700,000 miles, when was that b/c when I left Roehl the truck was about 2k miles short of 800,000 n they were going to fix some major things it had wrong n put it back on the road. so yes not all truck in Roehl have apu's. I had a 2005 International and in the last month I worked there that truck was more broken down than on the road.Ohh and don't have a family emergency it will take forever to get u home.

I have to disagree, I was trying to avoid it but, I work for Roehl on the national fleet. I had an immediate family member pass and I was instructed to go home by my FM not but one hour after I put in a call. I had only been out for 4 days. I guess though circumstances are always different with every situation.

How old are you? 12? No seriously, your linguistic articulation shows a certain level of immaturity.

I've seen former driver dispatchers blindly follow corporate orders just the same as those with no experience. The distinction should be having people that have common sense and will listen to reason. If this cannot be achieved there is an issue.

well I also worked in the "National fleet" eventhough I was more in the southeats except when it was time to go home it was like my fm hated t send his drivers home. Anyway my father in law passed away in Dec and it was 5 days before I got home b/c they wanted me to take a load to N.j. instead of getting me a load heading south to Florida or near like the one that was picked up at the shipper I was in headin to Athens Ga. When I told dispatch about that load the response I got was "that load was picked up this morning " so I responded that it hadn't b/c I talked to the driver. Needles to say I got no response from them.
@adamup1983 not everybody that complains about a carrier is a slacker like you say.

Funny how as soon as you say something like it really is you "adults" here have to move into making insulting comments. You say I'm articulating myself immaturely? You can sit at home crying, unable and unwilling to assume personal responsibility. All I'm trying to say is that there are two sides to every coin. Just because some of you had a bad experience or a bad FM doesn't mean they are a horrible company. Lastly, yes I am a kid and I've been paying my bills since I was 15, still graduated high school so, while I'm probably half most you guys age with my few years of driving experience...it sounds to me like I know a little more about a hard days work then some you. If you'll excuse me though, I've got go make some money on a 1300 mile trip now
