Visit a Swift shop when you get your truck and get supplied with these things. Most items they will provide for you. The only item I've ever been refused is a pigtail plug

Depends. How often do you change your clothes? How often do you want to do laundry?

6. Will I get the chance to do laundry?

Ya oughta.

7. What about a cooler a small one for some of my own drinks? Or will the take up too much room?

Are you talking on your mentor's truck? Ask him/her.

8. Should I take my computer or leave it at home for training?

Up to you

9. Does Swift make trainer and student drive as team towards the end of the training?

It is the generally accepted practice. I'm not sure it's required, but that's how the mentor's make money.

10. Do they return you to your home terminal for your Solo out?

Not sure, but I think so

11. Once you solo out do they let you take your truck home to load your stuff in it?

No, bring it with you, or pack it in the first time you go home

12. Can you park your personal vehicle at the terminal during training? Is it secured?

Yes, they have long term driver parking. No it is not secure. Park at your own risk

Keep looking around this forum, you'll find the answers to a lot of your questions on other threads. I know a number of Swifties have posted about their training experiences, too. I did not train with Swift, so I don't know much about that aspect of it.

Thanks 1nonly for your insight. Looks like there are a few things I will need to get before I go out alone. Guess the rest of it is trial and error. Guess when I get to that point I can get some more info from my trainer, just trying to be prepared. Wish the lot was secured but will take it as it comes perhaps a ride to Phoenix may be in order after my 2nd set of 3 weeks out.

wrench, adjustable wrench, screwdrivers, hammer, vice grips, mallet, bungie cords. (yeah I know bungies aren't exactly tools but you'll need them.)

When my husband and I finished training, when a driver was issued a truck Swift use to give out a tool box with wrenches, channel locks, adjustable wrench, screw drivers, hammer and vice grips. I don't know if they still do.

Home Depot, Lowes and of course the ever present -- Wal-Mart.

The shop at your terminal (and just about any terminal) will give you whatever you need. And 1nonly is correct about the pigtails, for some reason they don't keep many in stock. odd

I would suggest at least eight days worth and as a female I always pack extra undies.

I'm quite confident that you will. Always speak up and say to your mentor what you need.

If you're talking about on your mentor's truck then I'd say no. It's the mentor's truck and most likely he/she will already have one. You'll need to talk to him/her

Most likely it'll be alright but again, you're a guest in your mentor's "home" so ask. Also, with some mentors you might not have much time online.

Absolutely

I believe so.

Most fleets the answer is no. You'll need to bring your stuff to your truck.

Yes you can and no it's not secured.

All my questions are directed for the time I will be on the road training with a mentor, except for the questions regarding the tools I need to get to ready myself and my own truck for the road.

And a 4-pound sledge hammer. A 16-oz ballpeen just is not enough for some of those stubborn pins. Come to think of it, it's just not enough for those stubborn dock guys, either.

I bet it isn't! How many times in the past 4 years have you considered using it on one of those Dock guys?

BTW I checked out your blog Injun. Nicely done! I think that perhaps in a year from now I may take a look at doing the same thing. If it all works out, which I am sure it will, this is my Career until I decide to no longer work. I think the L/O may work for me. I have a good head on my shoulders and do a pretty good job at managing my finances. But I am certainly not going to take that leap until I get some Road time and experience under my belt. Glad to have you on here to help me along and answer a lot of my questions. Thanks again and keep it safe out there!

the only reason nana packs so many undies--is cause she likes to to the madonna thing and throw them out to her adoring fans as she drives by
i am sure some of the male drivers leave out in their undies--and come home in the same ones---you can flip them around 4 different ways---good for at least a month
if in doubt--go commando

Okay here is a new question regarding pre hires. Do they really mean anything or is it mumbo jumbo? I have a prehire for swift, I spoke to Corina on the phone today. Should I be happy I have that or eh? Thanks
