I was the same way. Toss a couple of chains and get out of the way. If It was raining, bust tail and secure. Toss tarps pin each corner. Then go outside out of the way. The drivers behind you have a schedule to keep as well. Like they used to say in the army. It don't rain in the army. It rains on the army. Flatbedders are suppose to be able to weather the storm. That is why we sling chains and tarps. The elements is just part of the job. Other wise bump docks and swing doors.
So, you wanna be a skateboarder?

Thats why I have rain gear and coveralls in the truck, don't want to hold up some one else and would hope they would have the same consideration for me.
-
Note to self. When flatbedding, weather is never an issue when it comes to Tarping load. Get the heck outta everybody's way!
OK, got it. -
I look at flatbedding as tough trucking, if you ain't tough then just shut the uck up! nuff said....

How do you Conestoga 'Bedders load long loads like beams or pipe?
What about bore casings that are over 8'?
Do those Conestogas allow for those loads? -
Most places I load coils make you throw one chain per...And then get out of the way...
-
We used to haul 48' beams in them. We always just rolled the tarp forward and either the forklift operator would swing them in by backing up. Or they would hold them in the air and we would back into them.
For things over 8' wide if you don't have the full 10' tall kit you can run with them open.
Working Class Patriot Thanks this. -
Your lack of comprehension is astounding. I never said I wouldn't take a load outside to finish tarping it. I said I would do enough to keep the load dry. Not me dry. Make sure you read what is typed, and not what you think you saw typed.ecubed82 Thanks this. -
Interesting..........
Maybe you should pay attention to what you type. If it takes you an hr to tarp you'd better only have one arm.
I'm just glad to see there's a few people with the same opinion about getting out of the way as I have on here. notarps4me, 66truck, Working Class Patriot. You should treat it like robbing a bank: Get in & Get out without anyone knowing you were there. -
So, you find me annoying, Jfaulk99? Sucks to be you.
I sure did say I would spend an hour to keep the product from getting wet. Did I say I wouldn't move outside? Nope. Obviously you have a problem with me, since I don't bow to your idea that since you roll your sides, and I throw my tarps, you're more important than me, and as such I should do whatever you want at a shippers'. I'm quite sure that we probably don't load at the same places, so I highly doubt there will be any "conflicts" between us, so in the end it matters little.
