Well I haven't posted here in a while, but is figure I'd ask the pros. I used to run a 102 on my old truck and I know how well they work. But thats going to be a little overkill for my new truck. As for a radio I have a uniden pc68 elite with wx. So my question is what do you guys think of this antenna combo. Im thinking of goin with a solarcon 24" vmt antenna and a 18" solarcon weather whip. They can be seen at placo electronics website. The antennas will be mounted in the middle of my roof on my 2005 silverado. Also my radio is only used for recreational purposes I don't need to key down over anyone or anything like that. So what do you guys think?
    Sorry for the long post.
    Thanks Quinn

Why hassle with two antennas? Get a k40 or a Wilson 2000 mag mount and be done with it. Those little shorty antennas you're looking at are worthless.

The Wilson is better, but for an out of the box radio you will never hear the difference.

What makes the Wilson better ?
The Wilson 2K/5K are not the same as the ones made 8-10 yrs ago.
Compairing construction and materail used in construction,as well
as performance they are pretty well equal.

Equal being "junk",yes they work but :biggrin_25513:

Supposedly Wilson is still using the same materials and machinery as before, even the engineers are still there. I wouldnt be scared of a wilson antenna...

"if" you could handle both versions you can tell
the new ones just feel cheesy, the majority have a rattle in them

For the money spent the Wilson/K40 arent bad for the majority
    of drivers out here.

Wilson does it for me. I have a 1000 in my truck for at least 18 years and my 4 wheeler has a magnet mount 1000. Is it true "Barjunk" bought out Wilson ?

Not everyone is looking to be, or wanting to be, a high end radio guru. Most guys just want a decent out of the box radio with a decent antenna.

The uniden pc68 with a wilson and/or k40 fits that bill just nicely. Not everything needs to be up to ham geek standard.
