So as I suspected, was dispatched to pick a load up in Cowansville PQ. 270 mi mt to Sturteville WI 977 loaded.I am getting pretty good at figuring where Roehl will send me..lol
So drove some real pretty country in northern NH and VT..wow
Got to border and stoped at customs window and turned my truck off but did not set air brakes,I heard they dont like that..Customs officer took my passport card and CDL and asked if I was mt and where I was headed.I answered I was mt and my destination.(If you are mt no paperwork is necesary)He said very well and handed me my cards and sat down back at the 4 wheeler window..lmao I sat there for a min to see if he was done with me..He was and I just drove off..I thought hmm that was easy..
Got to shipper and they thought my Iron Maiden shirt ruled..Got me docked but would not have load ready till 0700 nxt day..I was very early and if they had the load set up they would have loaded me right there and then.Once I was docked I got some warmer cloths on(it was in the 40s)
and headed for town a short walk away.Had a hell of a time with the locals, ended up back at the truck at midnight. One of the guys in the pub worked at the WH I was at and did not realize till morning that he would be loading me.He also was a big Maiden fan and loaded me in less then 30 min.#### chated with the WH guys and spilt.Went through Montreal, nice city then Toronto nice city but the traffic was the worst I have ever seen and never ended..When it broke I pulled over to the service area just outside Toronto and I was vibrating..It was pretty hard on me and I am pretty comfortable in heavy traffic but that was brutal.
Not 1 weigh station was open from Quebec to Ontiaro..for that matter all the way to WI..lol
Hit the Flying J on the 401 70 mi from border, fueled and called it.Faxed my paper work to broker and called dispatch and gave them info to fax ace manifest to me.Took a shower hit the Dennnys and went to sleep.I have to say Canada is nice, everything is clean the people are real nice, even in quebec..
Woke up early this morning and walked to store and there was a truck burned to the frame in the payline next to store entrance..I slept right through it..It was bad,the driver got fuel went inside and came out to a burning rig.
Got some pics and ACE then took off for the border..
Arived at border and customs officer asked what I was loaded with and where I came from, handed him my ACE and passport card,CDL.He said 10.75 I handed him my visa signed receipt and off I went..easy,peezy,japeneezy..
Ive heard and read some pretty bad storys about Canada border drama and what a pain in the ### paperwork is..I sufferd from none of these.A four year old can do the paper work required to get through customs. Its a minor hassle at best.
Maybe Ill have a horror story to tell next trip but this one rocked!
Launching in the morning!

I just spent the last couple of hours reading your posts. I think I learned more from you and all that chimed in than I have doing my research. I am thinking of being a driver. Im 43 and I need a change. Ive always wanted to drive but never had anyone explain things the way you have. Thank you. I live in San Antonio and need to pick a school and then of course a company. How easy was the process for you?
Hamsterrock74 Thanks this. -
Thanks for your kind words.I would have to say it will be a major change. Its a life style if you treat it like a job it will be the worst job you ever had.If you are looking for a school check out Roehl's in Marshfield.I did not go there but I hear they are very good and fair.See if they are hiring out of San Antonio. My evo 1 trainer lived there and there is a yard in Dallas TX but your location maybe a problem..Im not sure..If you have any questions please feel free to ask.You will always get an honest answer here.If its not somthing I know about then I am sure some more seasoned guys will have an answer for you.

Back from some home time and put my truck into maintence before I left.Came back this morning and the truck was being worked on.My AC was not working and it was pretty brutal last run.I have a load but it doesnt need to be picked up from shippers yard till 0000 and it goes to Pittston PA which Ive been before. Not to worried about making it.Pretty simple and light load.Worst case scenerio is Ill drive tonight, which I like doing anyways.Just have to plan better in order to have parking when I need it.
Going to be out 36 days so it should be interesting,I feel like I am going into the abyss though.Longest I have been out was 24 days and was kinda talking to myself near the end..lol
Really just fearful that I may actually like it and be out longer periods of time..
If any of you guys stay out long periods, please let me know how and why you like or dislike,Ill have my own opinion later.
My 1st is prob make better money and will learn more. -
Good luck with this run, my friend. You'll do just fine.

I'll be sure to stay in touch and fill you in on my progress. This will certainly be a busy week for me. I'll be heading up to Tunnel Hill Tuesday afternoon to get settled in the motel. Orientation starts early Wednesday morning.wulfman75 and Hamsterrock74 Thank this. -

In the last couple of months I have been thinking about leasing my truck from Roehl.Got the weekly payment today..30 months at 380.38 a week, down payment is 883.08 and I may buy the truck at the end of the lease for 7000.00..
This is somthing that I have thought about and weighed the pros and cons, with my limited experience fo course..
Pros..I get a lot more freedom, can make more money, get to take my dog with me..I know thats dumb but I think it will be good for me to walk her and such..The freedom aspect is not that strong of a pro..I have 2 FMs and they dont really bother me at all..I have to go way off the reservation for them to contact me.Mostly its the freedom to get home when I want.
My kids are older now and I am under the wifes insurence, money is fine we have very little debt and we have a house that we can easly afford. My wife makes good money and my income is extra.I hate to say that but its the truth, she will always make more then me.
The cons for me are that no matter what I have to make these payments,I run more of the risk..I cant really think of to many cons here but I am sure they are there.
What do you guys think?
