Being in GA I'd check out Boyd if I was you. TMC is out of IA and I think (not 100%) you might be out of there every weekend loop. They have 2 areas they hire from. Region 1 they guarantee 48 out of 52 weekends and region 2 is home every other weekend. Maverick is another but I'm not sure about there home time. I'd start by checking there websites. But those are just the big three.

BTC has a terminal in Birmingham, AL, so does Western Express come to think of it.

I was with BTC for about a year before finding my way over to my current carrier. Home every weekend (unless you either wanted to stay out or ran into problems...) HOWEVER, you'll bust your butt during the week. Leave out Sunday afternoon/evening to get to your Monday delivery first thing with hours available to go get your next load...unload, reload, drive...repeat all week. Thursday or Friday, you'll get a load that goes past the house that delivers on Monday. Whenever you get home, your weekend starts.

Personally, it wore me out. Most loads required tarps. I would run 8/2 split...drive to the receiver, take an 8...drive to the next shipper, take a 2, repeat. I'd be bumping 70 by the time I got home.

Believe it or not, it was easier at a prior company where I stayed out 2-3 weeks at a time before going home for 2-3 days....paced myself so that I'd never run out of hours, since I wouldn't be getting a 34 restart at the house.

    They treated me well, though...

You have numerous posts and numerous answers. I think what you are being told and keep missing is you will pay your dues one way or another. I'm not trying to be a jerk but you are looking for the job that all of us want and none of us have. You won't go and do your research. You just want someone to drop that great job that doesn't exist into your lap.

If you go OTR the work is pretty easy but you'll be out for a few weeks. If you do local, you will work hard as a delivery driver. If you do flatbed you will secure and tarp in 100 degree weather and rain. If you go regional you'll be home but you'll run yourself ragged on short runs, hurry and wait. Your hours will be eaten up loading and unloading and your miles will be lower.

Weekends home are not the kind of weekends you are accustomed to in other jobs. You may get home on Thursday afternoon and leave on Saturday night. You may get home on Friday morning and leave on Sunday afternoon. It will probably be different next weekend. And you may get your two days off in the middle of the week. In this business we move loads and our schedules are based on that, not our hometime or personal preferences.

Please do some research and decide based on that information. I fear the job you are looking for, or the one your school recruiter taylored for you based on what he knew you wanted, is nowhere to be found.

There is nothing wrong with looking for a job that will suit you. But if you'll read the threads I suggested you will see what is available and then you will have some more realistic expectations.
