Im cruzing FMCSR's website for an entry that states it is legal to have your daily log (the one your working on that day) separate from your log book (loose leaf). I had a copy of it but I threw it out during a clean out...
Also, if anyone knows the other entry where it states that if you have the previous 8 days you can catch up your daily legally while being log audited...
I had these #### things and I just can not find them![]()

There is nothing that says you log sheets have to be in the same book, or that they are in chronological order. As long as you have the current day and the 7 previous.
As to whether you can "catch up your daily legally while being log audited" I think the reg is 395.13(b)(3)
If I stop you and ask for your log, after I look at it and see where you left off, you will be allowed to catch it up.
Is that what you were looking for?Gears and dieselbear Thank this. -
Just cause you get to play catchup doen't mean you won't get a citation for not being currant too the last change of duty.
Yup, dieselbear and SHO-TYME Thank this. -
YES!!!!! Thats the one for the catch up id like to have on me but, im still looking for the "Im allowed to have my daily log on a clipboard and my last 10 days in a 3 ring binder" rule...
-
Since when I am first approached at an inspection, the first thing they ask for is the log book. It is immediately taken and then I am asked to park in the rear.
No chance for any last minute thoughts there.Gears Thanks this. -
Where is the regulation that says you can't?
As long as you have them "in your possession" and can produce them when requested, it does not matter what format they are. 3 ring, clipboard, book, paper clipped, etc. As long as they have the required information and are legible, log sheets can be almost any format, size and color.Tazz Thanks this. -
The scale officer wanted my log book, he would not allow me to put my log for that day in the book with the rest of my logs, in turn, writing me a ticket for a log violation, so im trying to find the statement saying that it IS legal for me to have them separate..
Ticket says: Operated or permitted to operate a vehicle not equipped as required. Def last entry on log book was 06/13 at 2400 in greenville sc.
So as he stated, my log book was current up to midnight the night before but that day wasnt in the book... -
You're not paying attention; there is no regulation in this regard specifying how the logbook pages must be oriented, therefore it is not a requirement and having the pages separated is allowed. That means, based on what you have posted, the scale officer was wrong. Fight the ticket.

Why wouldn't you give him your log book pages when requested? I ask for it and look to see where the last entry is. I could care less if it's in a binder, loose leaf, book or scattered about. But what guys try to do, is after I take the book. They make up the pages while I'm typing the inspection and then want to say, "oh by the way here is the rest of my log. " Why I ask for the entire 7 days and if the driver can't produce it, to bad, that's the log book you have. I've waited over 15 minutes for the driver to locate it. But many guys like to be cute and see what they can get away with.
My guess is you did something similar to what I have posted or you couldn't produce the log when requested.BigSam, trucker_101 and chalupa Thank this. -
Granted the slight possibility "Is there" but I'm thinking more in lines what really goes on out here when someone is given authority or jurisdiction.
They abuse it to CTA and get the donut quota.
DB knows full well he has done it himself
Its a cat and mouse game out here, you have to be a faster mouse
Its the smart mouse that gets caught!
