I have mine on all the time, usually volume down and squelched pretty tight. It's nice to know there is a brake check up ahead or something similar. However, it irks me when someone just says "brake check brake check". No direction of travel or approximate location given.

New breed of drivers can't handle the CB. us old school truckers know just how important leaving your CB on CAN ACTUALLY END UP SAVING YOUR LIFE SOMEDAY!

They think they already know everything anyways! If they are annoyed by the CB then you are spending way too much time hanging around truck stops. Out on the road you barely hear anything unless it is important.

Steering wheel holders don't have CB's or they always have them off.

If that's all it takes for me to be considered a "steering wheel holder" then I guess I'm guilty.

LOL yea got five years under my belt from the early ninety's. Drove for Burlington motor carriers, bowling green freight, builders transport and at last Food specialties where I stayed the longest because it was a union job. Two years where dedicated three states..

back when there where no cell phones,no qualcomm and Dm's where Dm's not company spies...:biggrin_2559:They actually looked out for the driver...

Things where much better back then...! I actually made more money and you where the driver of the truck not the company...

DOT should require every truck to have a CB because it is something that can save lives..

On the contrary. Soon, DOT will have the autority to write citations for the use of CBs. They are a distraction, according to the current powers-that-be.

I'm glad it is considered life-saving information to learn the state of a male driver's clothing and whether he is currently adorned with feminine undergarments. As for traffic conditions, if you can't see the brake check ahead of you, you're either going too fast or you're not paying attention. I don't usually turn the CB on until after I'm in the brake check in order to see which lane I will need. Aside from that, weather conditions, the rare time I am actually running with someone and customers, I have no use for it.

    # Injun they can fire that driver next month when they hire me. Soon the only thing cb's will be good for is to call the lot lizards. lol

I would have mine, but the driver in my truck before me decided to cut the antennae wire when he took his radio out so I have no way of hooking the antennae to the radio.

I keep mine on low and with the squelch tight. Already had one experience of being warned of traffic at a dead stop at the bottom of a steep hill on US25E. Sure could have stopped in time anyways but its better to know beforehand. Also just 2 days ago I'm at a stop sign at the bottom of an onramp in a one lane construction zone. Might still be sitting there if I didn't hear the old timer tell me come on out swift.

Now first thing I do when getting to a truck stop is turn the #### thing off thats where most of the garbage seems to be.

When I drove for Swift, the trucks came with a little Cobra 19. I invested in a better radio, and it's the same one I have in the truck to this day. I keep mine on low. If someone notices something deficient with my load as they pass by me or as I pass by them, I want them to be able to tell me about it. If there's some sort of pertinent information being disseminated, I want to know about that, too. I'd rather know of the brake checks, traffic jams, etc. well ahead of time, rather than at the last minute. For example, an overturned truck on US71 in Arkansas... it was right around a curve, and if you reacted when you saw it, then you had a fair chance of being too late. Since I use my CB, I knew about it well in advance, and was able to reduce my speed (as well as the speed of the truck behind me, which was NOT running a CB) well ahead of time.
It's one of those things where you gotta take the good with the bad. Yeah, there's a lot of idiocy on the CB, and I know it gets annoying. Keep it off if you wish. When you're the last to know, I just don't want to hear you whining about it.
