At an M&M Mars plant in NJ. I was smelling chocolate the whole time I was there. When I went inside to get my bills, they handed me a bunch of bags of M&Ms. I guess it was SOP for them to give chocolate to every driver.
The vast majority of the freight I've had rejected goes back to Swift, especially if it's something good like TVs. They've even taken the 4 cases of bottled water and the 1 case of canned soup. There's only been one time they didn't ask me to give up rejected freight, and that was big jars of chicken powder which I didn't want anyway.
What's the best thing so far you have recieved from a shipper or receiver?

I did some work for Coca- Cola a few years ago. The gal at the desk bought us all bottles of coke form the machine in the office, $.50 /20oz bottle.
I used to get food items from customers as well, when I worked for Fultons Landing in Rogers (now the TA). The best was the Ice cream form the Baskin-Robbins drivers, they always left flats of the stuff for us. -
A partial load of live plants, that I sold for $500.
they were worth about 2K !!!! -
This is all within the last year.
6 cases of 32oz bottles of Orange juice.
14 cases of aluminum foil.
12 cases of 60 watt light bulbs.
A whole pallet of tomato juice. That one took forever to get rid of.
8 cases of toilet paper and 4 cases of paper towels.
4 cases of Cambells chicken and stars soup
2 cases of Progreso spagetti sauce
About 11 years ago I picked up a load out of RJR in Winston Salem NC and they tried to give me 6 packs of Camel cigs. I don't smoke so I didn't take them. -
Hubby has brought home potato chips (he hauls spuds mainly), and recently brought home some sweet corn. The box was damaged, so it got rejected. Broker told him it was his. I can't remember what else he has brought home, but it hasn't been often.

The best thing I received from shippers & receivers, who were mostly mom & pop shops, was a sincere "Thank you" when I was on-time or early or just friendly and helpful; it was often accompanied by a handshake. One woman actually hugged me. Her coffee and pastries were pretty good and she told great jokes.
The cases of toothpaste from Chesebrogh-Ponds and the ice-cold
32-oz Pepsi's given during summer unloads in North Carolina and Florida were nice too.Lilbit Thanks this. -
Years ago used to haul out of Keebler outside of Chicago. Was in there about every two weeks. Got to know the guards well, and everytime before I left, I was handed a 50Gal trash bag, full of cookies and Chips. Some where so new, they were not even on the shelves yet. Still in the testing phase. Used to also haul alot out of a Cold Storage in Omaha, and there was always overage and damage. It was cases of banquet stouffers. My final stop was always close to home, so I got to know the unloader at my final stop, and found out that he had 7 kids, so most of my overage would always go to him to help out, and I would usually keep one or two for myself. The best, when he got them, unldd first, and no charge.
