Contaminated soil equals heavy ### loads, most all of the time overweight. DOT will be on you like white on rice because they know for the most part where you're loading doesn't have permanent scales in place and unless your trucking company is using their own loader operators then you will most likely be hauling what they put on you, this usually means they put on what THEY want to put on and that doesn't bode well for you. Just something to think about with CSA and all, everything you do these days is done under a fine tooth comb, if it's only temp. is it worth risking your CSA score to haul someone elses overweight loads?

Just pay attention to their equipment, is it a frameless dump that you'll be using, if so be VERY careful, they flop over at the blink of an eye. The company I work for hauls a lot of contaminated and with the new CSA regs we've really tightened things up, it's just a tough spot as the driver, the customer wants you to haul what they load but as a responsible driver you've got to look out for what's best for you. If you don't have any experience in dump trailers I might think twice about it, usually contaminated soil is sticky and doesn't like to come out of the trailer quick, it stays until the last minute and chances are you'll be hauling in to some kind of a landfill or unimproved dump area, again this is room for concern with a dump wagon. I've pulled them now for quite a few years and believe it's a relatively safe job but you've got to be on your toes and pay attention to the trailer all the way to the top, if not it could end in disaster.

That really bits to lose an opportunity that's so close. At least your family is doing ok, since you were able to stay with the previous employer.
