    Howdy All;

I'm here in Riverside, CA (Yes California...)
I have 187 Days 13 Hrs and 26 Mins and 5 Seconds (from the time of this writing) until i can call up few recruiters and start the process, I'm currently 20 Years old and February is my B-Day
(Not here for question about what company to go with; I'm deciding to go with either Prime or CRST)

I don't have a paying 'job' ATM but I am helping out my Grandparents(they manage a self storage) and I drive them every where and do errands etc etc, as well as my Uncle.

Should I Just Wait Out the 187 Days Then Call them? or should I try to find a job? and do less with my grandparents?
    - I've been looking for warehouse/fast food jobs here and there but nothing has shown positive outcome. (no call backs or interviews from employers)

So, Again the question is should i keep doing on what i'm doing and don't worry about finding a job until the 187 Days are over?
(I do have a lot of volunteer expierence; from Comodo Forums (Global moderator for 5 days), To Self Storage, To Auction Driver (For my uncle) From Care Giver (For my other uncle) etc etc)

Side note; I want to thank you whom ever put together this forum so that us (Future and Newb Drivers) can learn and ask questions, Thanks!

Were I you, I would get on a payroll ASAP. If your grandparents don't have you on one, you aren't going to be able to use that as employment history, which looks good to recruiters. I know it's tough in that area (I used to live in Fontana a couple years ago), but you gotta get anything. Walmart, fast food, stocking shelves at Ralph's, ANYthing.

Also, why are you limiting yourself to Prime or CRST? You can start out with much better income than either of those, but I'm not bashing either one of them. Are you going to a school in the area or are you planning on going with a carriers training program? I went to ASD over in Fontana, Decent school, old equipment (like most), but you WILL pass the state test.

Ok; I thought Volunteer would be good enough; but I guess not! Thank You Oh Merciful One! :biggrin_25514:

Please Shine Some Light Over Here :) My Uncle drove for Prime Inc, and he loved it (he was a company driver) he worked for them for about 8 Years and then went to CR England to be a Trainer. So Please Shine Some Light :)

I plan on doing whats the easiest and most efficient.

Have you ever been on a payroll for a company? Because work history is pretty important. Warehouse work is tough to get into. It's hard work with long hours depending on what you do there, but it's great experience. You CAN call recruiters now, but have EVERYTHING in order before you do because they will want alot of information.

I am 20, I attend school in August, Birthday is on Sept. 9th, and I graduate Sept. 23. I have a few pre-hires already, but I've spent months working on getting everything right and in order. Which you can do. I first started off by pulling my MVR (Which I knew what was on it), I then contacted a few companies, started doing research online which lead me to this site. I now know more then enough to make somewhat of a decent decision on who I should go with and who I should just avoid.

But like I've said, I've put months work into it. Hours upon hours reading great threads here, and talking to drivers at my job. I am paying for my own schooling aswell because once again I have the resources to do so, I would rather not tie myself down to 1 company for a year and turn out hating it and owe them big bucks. It's what you put into it that counts. Use those days you have by putting them to good use!

Sadly, No; It's always been under the table type of jobs or Volunteer

    Where do you work? :)

Well, My option would have to attend a company-owned/paid training school (IF I have some luck of making enough money within 187 Days.

I will start looking again at Craigslist/News Paper/Apply-in-person at fast food or walmart etc..

Just need some help with that, because I'm the type of person who 'needs instructions' to function type of thing, Its the dad's that usually teach you how to find a job or how to do this or that, or the mom inplace of the dad that teaches you this and that.. but sadly, Never had that mom or dad or Gpa/Gma ... So I'm basically a bit scared so Anyone Know how basically get a job?.. or another words instead of just applying to applications and sending resumes via Email etc?

So; If i go to college instead of a job? or no? Hmm?

go to a place halfe hour after they open, look clean neat and profesional. ask to speak with the manager or human resourses. do not just ask the first person you see if the are hireing!!! introduce yourselfe and tell them why you want to work there and why they should hire you. be persistant but not annoying. put your uncles down as previous emplyoers talk to them about it.

    good luck

I took advice from a lady at a trucking school told me when I was 18. Stable employment history is what company's want. Albeit maybe some large carriers don't care much about it, but it makes you look good. As for the "Need Instructions to function", you need to toss that mentality out the window. When you drive solo, no one is going to be there giving you instruction on how to handle a icy hill on a downgrade. Hell even I myself don't know how to yet, but I live in Florida The Sun Shine State :)

As for getting a job? Submit a application, wait 24-28 hours, call and request to speak to HR (Has to be early as most only work mornings).. When you get on the phone inquire about your application. As for getting a job at Walmart, look more at applying for the Logistics end. Anything to do with Unloading / Loading trucks will give you great experience. I currently work for Target. I've been working the Target DC for a few weeks now, but going back to the Target Store here soon. But even then I will be working Logistics there. I've been with Target for almost 3 years now. (If not 3 years)

Also, YOU have to PUT in the effort to get it done. I'm sorry to hear you didn't grow up with your mom, dad or grandparents.. And trust me, I count myself lucky everyday I can tell them I love them. But it's time to grow up (don't take that in a bad way please) and focus on what you want. REALLY think this over, because I like hearing success stories more then people complaining they didn't like it because it wasn't all what its cracked up to be.

I've taken great advice from people here, and family. I've also learned from experience as somethings in life can really bite you in the as-s if you don't cover it.

Edit: Also note that most company's will ask about how you will do in team work situations during interviews. I've done plenty of interviews where people stutter and are nervous. When your in a interview, don't be nervous as they are just there asking simple questions to get a feel for who you are and your work ethics. Simple stuff.
