Stay away from the Mercedes motor.
123456 and American-Trucker Thank this. -
Surely there are other choices than those two.
That's like asking which is better, Swift or Werner?123456 Thanks this. -
Ditto, go with the Yamaha. My former fleet had a bunch of them ( Mercedes )......didn't live up to the mpg billing, lots of EGR problems, difficult to get parts for and gutless.
Service mgr said he was done on these AND they don't make the engine anymore.....
Good luck....Last edited: Jun 28, 2011

Say no to the mbe mercedes. The 14L detroit didnt do well on fuel. I would explore further finance options or wait till you have more of a down payment or can pay for one with cash.

Also.... the MBE 400 has no resale value ( in Houston )
Apples to apples 05 Columbia's on the lot, one Yamaha and one Mercedes the Yamaha will pull an extra 10k with 100k more miles everyday. Columbia sleeper can be had ( Mercedes and 10 speed ) in the upper 20's with 494k miles. Buyers have paid 38k for a 600k Columbia / Yamaha / 10sp.
If you have to deal with this guy then beat him back on the Mercedes price and get a nationwide warranty.

run very fast from the mercedes motors all you need to do is hang around a freightliner dealer for a while and you will see why we say not a mercedes.
