people can change. i`m a perfect example of that. i know what a truck looks like when it drifts and i know the consequences that go along with that. are you a driver or a wannabe? if you drive change your trucker status and if you are a wannabe, then your opinion on this or how the trucking industry should be, is pretty much worthless to me. don`t mean to be a jerk but i`m so sick of all the pollitically correct nanny state bs that is costantly shoved down my throat! i`m 45 years old and i don`t need a babysitter! i don`t even know why i`m argueing about this, maybe because the sheep will ruin what`s left of this industry and this country.. anyone want to tell me how this will make the roads safer? if it doesn`t controle the truck or 4 wheelers than all it will do is cover your butt, which i don`t have a problem with. my problem is the possible miss use of technology and the crooked s.o.b`s that opperate these companies. i drive because i don`t want someone standing over my shoulder when i do something. :biggrin_25513:

That is not the point. The point is... why would you allow them the ammo in the first place, even though you believe the gun will never be used? It is sheer foolishness. Ever heard of the concept of the slippery slope?

I guess you sheeple forget how many times we have to leave our lanes for safety purpose like for construction or something in the road.

But that's ok though right? In the name of safety, you are losing your freedoms....just like you welcome the TSA molest kids at airports in the name of homeland security? Jeez....WAKE UP!

How are you losing your freedom if a camera is recording the road when a trigger is set off? I'm sure i'm just naive, but if the camera records the road in front of the truck when something happens it's not an invasion of privacy. I can see where you have an argument if it records what is happening inside the cab.

Sorry, but your "friend of a friend" attorney argument doesn't fly. The IBT's legal department looked at this for a long time and it is quite legal to install any equipment (legal equipment that is) in any vehicle you own. The cameras are not hidden..Personally, I think everyone screaming about their "rights" should perhaps buy their own truck. When you are paying for it all, then you can have all the "freedom" you want to drive as poorly as you want. As I stated before, I'm not a big fan of any of these devices, but as I drive with them, it's really become a "non-issue" anymore. If it's a choice of driving a vehicle with a camera or resigning from an 80K a year job with great benefits and home time/weekends in a recession..well, that's a no-brainer..Too many "black helicopters"...

Good point. When this first was rolled out, we watched numerous videos of this thing in action as drivers were talking or texting on their phones (NO audio btw). Trucks weaving, tailgating, hard braking as Mr. Pro Driver behind the wheel really "got into" his/her conversation. Texting drivers that looked as if they were intoxicated. It was quite an eye opener. All the "privacy advocates" are probably in that category. I know I was, but not anymore. My phone goes off, it can wait.

i consider myself a pretty safe driver, alot safer than i was the first time around. i don`t text and drive. (qualcom fits under this for those that have it) i watch my p`s and q`s. i`ve been looking at trucks for months, i am going to buy. it seems to me it`s a double edged sword. i can see the arguement for it but i`m making the arguement against it. every inch that is given without a fight is a mile they take. most of my arguement is about this nanny state we live in and big brother watching every move and then there`s the, what if? what if the scumbag company does abuse it? why take a chance? those who say we have no right to privacy would be screaming a whole different story if some perv was whatching his old lady or daughter through their window. if we have no right to privacy, why is voyerism illegal other than tresspassing? :biggrin_2556: just sayin.....

I really don't mind the tracker/Peoplenet/Greenroad thing. We have a score sheet in our office and it is right out in the open for all the wold to see. About all it does is keep all the fringe drivers honest. And there is a part of me that likes to see a governed at 65 truck doing 85 down a hill and the even posted for all to experience.

I think one of the best things to have at a company is a proper pre-hire driving test . I road tested one guy the other day and even though he had troubles shifting (he had been driving an auto shift) he turned a pretty mean corner! Never hit a curb! So I had to pass him.
