I thought the same thing. Look on the FMSCA website concerning commercial vehicles and texting.... Qualcomm is exempt.

Really, that's retarded. Qualcomm is more difficult to do while driving than texting. Or so I've heard.

Nope! Set it in your lap and type away or on the steering wheel and type away Bigger keys, larger screen and you aren't holding it BUT it's still not the smartest thing to be doing while driving down the road.

Unless you are really good at one hand typing then that's not a problem. Yes, there is actually several typing courses that teach left and right hand typing. Remember the James Bond flick where James had a small bomb in his ink pen and the bad guy computer programmer was clicking the crap out of it while he typed with one hand and James is trying to keep up with his clicking on the pen! Same thing. Even Mavis Beacon has it on an old program!

OH! The programmer did blow his arse up!

It's still not a good idea but the keyboard is laying in the lap. Some texters can do the texting with one hand but they have to keep more attention on the cell than the keyboard.

    Anyone remember Highway Master? LOL

OH! James did not lose count and ducked before the programmer went up in a puff of smoke!

I would think that reading that tiny little screen would be difficult.

I'm done talking to you until you 1, educate yourself about the freedoms that hundreds of thousands of American soldiers have fought and died to protect, and 2, can the insults. There is absolutely no call for your petty insults. Suggesting someone is a bad driver because they choose to make a stand for freedom is nothing but a slap in the face for all who love this country and refuse to budge an inch every time our civil liberties are infringed upon.

That is EXACTLY why no true American will ever back down and allow infringements on his rights.

"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for men of good conscience to remain silent" -Thomas Jefferson

    I'm stealing that quote! :biggrin_25514:

There are no microphones or video cameras!! A driver could be naked in his cab and the recording of that would be horrifying and an invasion of privacy.. Even though it's the company's truck privacy laws apply. The company would have to have you sign something to waive your rights to be able to record you

Here is a statement that just screams out: "My principles can be bought." How sad.

That company should have been warned by the union back when it first gave notice that it was thinking of implementing these measures that a walkout would result. And if it became necessary not only should they have walked, they should have insured that no scabs would have been brought in either. (Think 1940's. Your freedoms are not free.) Shut them down tight until they've decided they'd rather be in business and making money rather than impinging upon their worker's rights.

It'd be a whole lot tougher to remedy now that the barn door has been left standing wide open for so long. But it seems that a change in local leadership is called for. They are just too blasted cozy with management on this critical issue.

And a news flash for you... just because some corporate lawyers have deemed this invasive activity "legal" does not make it in any way right. There is a huge difference between the two.

The only amendments that limit the governments powers are the 9th and 10th.

After reading this discussion, I come to realize that y'all are forgetting one key aspect of the 9th and 10th amendments. That aspect is the commerse clause. Don't forget what it is that you do for a living folks. The feds don't care about you -- they care about the 40,000 lbs of cargo you're hauling across state borders. Don't like the regulations? Nothing is stopping you from quitting.

Also, these devices aren't spyware devices. They are meant to protect you and the company. As I said, no major OTR carrier in their right state of mind would staff people to babysit 3,000+ trucks 24/7 365. A company cannot view a clip from a drive cam anyway unless a 'event' triggers the cam to send a clip to HQ.
