It was good timing that I stumbled upon this forum just as I'm about to start driver school. My first day is tomorrow. I'm going to the California Truck Driver Academy in Santa Ana. Looking to absorb as much information as possible in class, and here, so I can make a good decision as to who I want to try to drive for. Lots of conflicting info out there.

This is a second career for me. I'm on the cusp of middle age, but in great shape and excellent health. My kids are grown up so I can be away from home without too much stress. I want to work another 10 to 15 years, and I'm looking forward to doing it on the road.

A recruiter from CRST came by the class today. Sounds like a good company (of course, he's recruiting for them) but not much solo driving is done there. I had always thought I'd be out on my own after training. I'm thinking about the pros and cons of solo driving now.

Took my physical today and will take my written DMV tests tomorrow.

Welcome to the forum. Yes there is lots of conflicting info out there. However, I have found this forum to be the best for being able to sort all the conflicting info and make a good decision that fits you. Take the time to research post here and look around you will find that you can sort it all out easily.

No kidding, I live off Borden Road in Santa Fe Hills.

I passed my General Knowlege, Combo, and Air Brake tests yesterday and began practice in the truck today. Need more practice alley docking. Straight backing was no problem.

Not the usual route I take driving in or out of the neighborhood, but I've probably ran or biked past there a few times. I'm on Via Barquero.
