rear diff yoke bearing

    I found today that the Bearing / yoke of the rear diff where the tailshaft goes onto has about 1/4 inch play in it (not the uni), can anyone advise what parts i will likely be up for, kenworth have not seen it but are saying that i may need a heap of parts, like, a new shaft, pinion kit, and about 4 bearings and cones. what do you all think? ive got a booking with my mechanic in 5 days time.

    Just throw a reman diff in there and be done with it. If the pinion has been moving around like you say then the back pinion bearing is worn/damaged. If the pinion shaft has been moving around then there may be some damage to the crown gear. If there is a lot of metal flakes in the oil then all the bearings have been running through that. In the end, if this unit has a lot of miles on it, I would just replace the whole thing and cover all your bases.

    Thanks, thats how i found the problem, changed diff oil and there was metal flakes in oil.
