Im sure we do have runs out that way. I went through Arizona a few weeks ago. If they can get me home living over hundred miles out of the way, they can get you home lol We run out west quite a bit. They will normaly work with you about home time.

I've delivered to grocery DCs in the Phoenix area in the past, as well as dropping a load of tire recapping material to a tire shop out there. So yeah, we do get there.
Home time works like this. You put in for it, leaving your FM with enough notice that he can work out the details. They find a load that finishes near your home... you run the load and deliver. Drop the trailer at an agreed location so its available, then bobtail home in your tractor. Reverse the process on the way out. -
Alright sounds good to me. And thanks guys for the quick response.

hey OpenRoadDreamer... as someone whos just getting started last month, what advice or tips would you give to someone going in on day one, or something you might have done different to make transition a little easier? if any...

Hmmmmm..... Advice.... have everything ready to go. Pack enough clothes, you can do laundry, but it costs money. Save up enough money so you can eat while out on the road during the PSD phase. Make sure you either have a passport, or a certified copy of your birth certificate. You must have one or the other to get your permit. If you can get your permit before you leave, thats a lot better. You will only have one night to study for the permit tests. Listen to what they tell you to do. It is difficult at first to drive these things. Also, dont beat yourself up if you cannot get it at first. Ask questions if your not sure of anything. The other drivers were very helpful, even the ones who were not training. When your out on the training pad, watch the people who are practicing. See what they do right, and what they do wrong. After you get out on the road, WATCH THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR. You dont want a car sneaking up from behind and riding in your blind spot. Had a car tailgating me n I could not see them... Next thing I know I see blue lights in my mirrors. I start pulling over n the car takes off around me with the cop in toe. If I didnt watch my mirrors I would have never known. Also, be very careful what you do in that rig. You are responsible for an 80,000 pound weapon of mass destruction. Drive safetly

Do Prime drivers get a pretty versatile assignment of routes? I want to start out of Florida and I want to see the country. Hoping to join a company that will shoot me out west. I'd be pretty bummed if I were restricted to east of the Mississippi most of the time.
