i should have mentioned the time clock thing too. a driver many years ago had told me that, but believe it or not, so did my dispatcher when i was doing linehaul at an LTL company. some idiot at the "other terminal" would ALWAYS say i was late arriving for them to transfer over the load to another trailer. so when i would LEAVE my home terminal i would "punch out", then at my arrival i would "punch in"..given it was "about" a 4 hour drive, they had absolute proof i was NEVER late, in fact many times early...

that put an end right away to any more BS at the other terminal, and the guy that Biotched about me not being on time...?? they had HIM punch in/out on EVERY TRAILER he worked on...he even had to punch in/out for bathroom breaks, which surprisingly, he shortened them up real quick....

so yeah, DO THAT from now on, punch IN when you get there, IF a time clock IS available...or hey, call you dispatcher, or Qualcomm him you had arrived. i think even if a time clock is not available to you, the guard shack may have one, ask him/her to stamp it for you..??

just tell them, YOUR COMPANY REQUIRES IT.....

Ok, help me here..... did I read that right? Sometimes you drivers are asked to pay to schedule / reschedule an appointment? And you do this? And it's who's money?
    Wow huh?

Well here's how it goes at MOST tanker outfits. We get an appt. and we roll on it. I usually call the customer in transit and ask if they want it early etc. They usually say yes and give me a new verbal appt. but sometimes it's no.

Anyway, a few have said you don't belong here but none have asked for fees.

( I'd have to wish them good luck with that request )

I have had similar situations over the years, but it has been rare. Some will complain about stuff in trucks, like the Qualcomm, but it helps in those situations. I had one recently, Affiliated foods, in Norfolk, NE that tried to pull a similar thing. Claimed I was late by 15 minutes because I had to wait in line for other trucks to get processed thru the gate. I told them to go ahead and document it that way, but the satellite doesn't lie.

They didn't try to dispute it at that point.

We have qualcoms and satellite locations so even if you send your "arrived to deliver" macro an hour away trying to fake that you are not late, they can tell.

But I don't know how easy it is to get that location information... The time stamp is onsite and tangible. It can be shoved in the face of anyone arguing you were not there!

If I paid that $60 fee out of pocket it would have been reimbursed. Or I could use a comdata check.

As far as crazy fees... I have even been charged $20 just to roll through an open gate onto the property!

Anytime someone wants a "fee" that is likely to go straight into their pocket, be sure you get some type of paperwork showing that they were paid that fee. Don't be afraid to question these fees if they don't sound right.

I wouldn't be surprised if suddenly those fees just "magically disappear." Of course there may be circumstances where it is in your best interest to just pay up and shut up, but the vast majority of the time, question unusual fees.

You don't need to do it in a hostile or accusatory manner. But you do have the right to know that what you are paying is legitimate.

Oh Yeah! Everything gets a receipt.

Then those expenses (gate fees, lumpers, scale weighs etc) are logged over the qualcom, a PO is returned and written on receipt and on the BOL scan cover sheet.
