So the moral of the story is. If you want drivers lined around your company wanting a job? Pay a desent wage and treat your driver like they should be be treated.

I don't understand how drivers can stay for years with a company that doesn't make sure the drivers get the miles they need to earn a decent living, even if they're just started. Send me home with no pay, if you don't have enough work to keep everybody busy. At least at home I can do something for my family, fix something on my house, and sleep well.

When I'm out 1500 miles from home sitting chained to my QC, waiting for a load I can do nothing. Respect my time, and I will respect you, Mr Trucking Company!

If you abuse my time, I will NOT work for you!

Oh I don't know, let's see turn trucks down to 62 or less MPH, don't allow them to idle in the heat, and make them fight for all their cash they are owed.

    Acted surprised when truckers leave?

Lets see; Low pay barely able to make house payment and buy grocerys,I quit and try somewhere else and I,m a job hopper. Waiting for union company to build terminal where i live, good thing i havn,t held my breath. Drivers aren,t covered by dept. of labor so company doesn,t have to worry about nothing except a poor broke job hopper with a couple of tickets for falsifing or pattern logging applying or leaving job. Yea probably a shortage of drivers!

My main frustration is I feel is that trucking is a transportation industry severely lacking in the infrastructure to support it. I often think of other businesses like Airplanes, Ships, or Trains with the Harbors, Docks, Airports, and Train yards.

An airplane pilot doesn't have to spend the night in the plane stuck in the equivalent of some crappy truck stop, to small rest area, or vacant lot by some ghetto. Also the airports are designed for the planes they receive, unlike the crazy docks trucks are expected to squeeze into.

Also those other transportation industry typically operated by Crews while in trucking everything is put on 1 person or sometimes 2 with teams.

I will say if your lucky some carriers might have some terminals around the country for you but forget it if you drive for a small fleet.

    More trouble than WHAT????????????:biggrin_2554:

Does this mean that trucking companies have more trouble keeping long-haul driver's than say, oh, the space program? Or McDonalds? Or does it mean they have more trouble than they used to?

    Geeze, I'm confused. . .[IMG]

If trucking companies spent half as much time and money listening to and paying their current drivers instead of lying to and trying to recruit new drivers maybe they wouldn't need so many new drivers and would keep the good ones working for them!!!

I'm new to trucking (just under a year OTR) and work for one of the large companies. I have noticed that just about every department in the company (Dispatchers, Planners, Safety, Logs, etc) seems to consider the Trucker as a bother they would prefer not to have to deal with. Well here's the rub, people: your job depends on the Truckers. We are the only income generators for the company. Your job depends on US! Think about it. If you make our lives a little easier, we make more money for the company.....just sayin'
