Hello everyone, I am new to trucking, something I have wanted to do all my life. Retired from the US Navy 14 years ago as a boiler technician.
The reason I titled this "I am a political refugee" is that 8 weeks ago, I was a senior maintenance manager at NASA Langley research center in Hampton, VA. Yes, NASA. very cool job, made 65K. Obama made cuts to NASA.. NASA made me a cut. Now I drive. The wife is learning all she can and passing everything on to me while I am on the road. Especially this forum. She has been reading alot. Especially about my company, PRIME. I am having a blast except the missing home part "again". Thought I was done with that after retiring from the Navy. I have a trainer that i have known for ten years so that makes it better. Should have my own truck by the 1st week of August. In case anyone wants to know, So far PRIME has been awesome, they treat us great, I have zero complaints. Also I have been to 37 states already. Avoiding Vermont for some reason thought.
I am a political refugee

Hello and welcome!
Wow, I guess that really shows how messed up the economy is if NASA is having problems. Nobody's job is safe now.
But anyway, welcome aboard, and enjoy your new career! -
14 years as a navy BT should offer you far better job oportunities than truck driving. Good luck either way though.

He was a BT 14 years ago.. doubt that would help in that field now and besides... I have learned that most MOS's in the Military don't do much for civilian jobs, as far as the crossover goes. For example; an 88M is a truck driver in the Army but, an 88M still has to go through the same CDL schools and what not as a civilian trucker, to get his civilian CDL. Now that being said, because I have my civilian CDL I can use that to get my 88M MOS, without taking the class, in the Army. Go figure, right?
