I live in Oklahoma. I am buying a truck in Arkansas. Can I put the truck title and tag in my name even though I don't have CDLs?? My boyfriend is going to be the driver not me.

Yes, the only thing you need the CDL for is driving. All other aspects of this business can be run by a non-CDL owner. But make sure that you are following the rules as far as the DOT is concerned. You will want to make sure that you have completed the driver qualification file before he moves that truck.

Thank you for answering. What is a driver's qualification file?
-
Before getting ahead of myself here, are you buying this and planning on running independent or leasing it to another carrier? If the latter, then they will do that and you want to make sure the driver is qualified by the carrier, and the equipment will meet their standards, before you buy the equipment.
If you are looking at independent then look at some of the threads about becoming an O/O and what is required. You have a lot of hoops to jump thru and part of that is making sure that the driver is qualified to drive. This includes pre-emploment drug test, checking past work history, having the correct application on file, copy of MVR and bunch of other things.BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
Yes, okay I know what that is now. Just needed to know if that was what you were referring to.

It's a business expense without regard to whether you get it from the DMV or the company you lease to as long as you pay for it. Therefore it is a tax deduction either way.
EDIT: Leave it to me to answer the old part of a revived thread. -
With all due respect, there are lots of questions you should be asking if you are at this point asking that question. There are many pitfalls awaiting your arrival. Please go read all the docked threads in the "Ask An Owner Operator" section.

BJ54 speaks the truth. One example of making sure you have all the answers - if leasing on to a company, do they have a base plate program? They may pay for these. Plus, most states will require a DOT # to register. Yours if going independent or the company you are leasing to.
BigJohn54 Thanks this.
