Hey,my names Mindy, I've been on the road for the past year with my husband and were thinking of taking our truck to Conway. I was wondering if you knew what Conway policy on new drivers was and how did you go about getting you CDL. I've been thinking of getting mine but the company we're with right now won't hire me without me having a yr experience. I already know how to hook up to a trailer and pull tandems. I help my husband do all that right now. Thanks for any info you have.

Hi Mindy!
You are in a situation very similiar to mine about 6 months ago. I rode passenger with my boyfriend for 2 years but finally went to get my CDL in February and now we drive team here at CWTL. We are company though.
I don't believe the fact that you would be owner op would change too much of what I am about to say but I would call con-way's recruiting and verify it before y'all make any kind of decision.
Your husband would need to come on over to con-way and go through orientation and get running as a solo driver then you would need to go to school to get your cdl while he builds up some time here at con-way. I would highly recommend going to Crowder College in Neosho, MO. Con-way has a tuition assistance program with them and also although they do accept students from other schools, any students who didn't attend Crowder have to spend a week in boot camp there before being hired. That's where I went, it's a very good school.
The way the tuition assistance program works is you pay part of your tuition and then for your dorm and licensing fees and such and as long as you graduate Crowder and pull atleast 1 load with Con-way they pay off the other part of your school. It's about $2300 for your part of the tuition, the 5 weeks of dorm stay/meals, licensing and DOT physical fees, etc...
After you graduate crowder you go to orientation and then go out for 7500 miles with a trainer. Because your husband won't have much con-way time under his belt he wont be able to train you but you will be able to team up with him right after training.
Like I said, some things might work a little different for O/O's so I would verify all that with recruiting but that should be pretty close to how it would go.
If you would like you can take a look at my thread about going from passenger to Crowder and stuff. Here's the link: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ew-drivers/127240-from-idea-to-actuality.htmlvmaggs and blktop-bucanear Thank this. -

Well my husband put his app in at Conway hoping to start Conway next Monday!!! Whoo hoo

Can someone tell me where the dropyards are in Central Florida? We are thinking about switching to Conway next month.

Alright. I am being lazy here. I did not feel like reading this entire thread so the answer may lye in here somewhere.
Can someone expand on Conways orientation and bootcamp? How long is it? What is all involved, etc.? -
Can someone tell me what Conway Truckload includes in the physical exam? The recruiters can't tell me. One says they have more to it than just the DOT medical card physical exam and another said no they didn't. Is it like the old Swift work well? I was told by a driver it is but he doesn't work there. Thanks.
And what's on the backing test?Last edited: Jul 11, 2011
