I was wondering how much OTR expierieance you needed to become an Expediter. If you had to own your Truck.(Streight Truck w/sleeper). Can you lease one? Is there a company out there that you can drive one for and be a company driver. I have 3 months OTR with an 18 wheeler but my backing sucks. I have sev eral years expiereance driviing a school bus no problem with backing there. So if any of you nice folks could give me some info on the Strieght Trucks and Expedting it would be great. I love to drive I hate to sit.:biggrin_25519:

Most required any where from 6 months up to 3 years experience.

You can lease a straight or T/T and lease it on with a company but most to all expedited companies don't own company trucks.

As far I know most expedited companies don't own trucks,so be a company driver is slim chance.

As far I know, companies that will take someone with 6 months experience is

Panther Expedited Service(no experience required for van or straight truck,6 months exp for T/T)

    Express-1

    Tri State

And few others but not sure which ones, the ones I listed I know for sure.

You could drive for a fleet owner first. Probably a good idea to start that way and learn about the industry first before putting down a big investment.

I have no problem backing a straight truck. I drove buses for quite a while. I can back a T/T but just not that good at it yet. It takes me a bit to get it in straight. And I usually have an audience while I'm backing. I just smile and and say ok you guys have had your comic relief for the night. Every now and then though a nice person will see that I am having some difficulty and they will get out if there truck and direct me. I am sure with time and more practice it will come to me. My instructor said My Blind backing was great. In the hole every time with just 1 pull up. Anyone who knows me says I all ways do thing backwards.:biggrin_2559:
