Well, even on the company side "it is your own truck." At say Swift for instance, if you take time off at home, your truck will probably be signed-out to another driver while you're gone. At Prime, its your truck until its called back in.
As far as "putting out money" is concerned on the lease side - there are no payments from you to the company to get into it. Yup, there are fixed costs including the tractor lease payment (that includes insurance) - but you're being paid a percentage of the load revenue, fuel surcharge and accessorial payments. In other words, they give you a big pot of money that you pay your expenses out of - what is left is yours. Run efficiently, and it works out in your favor. -
thanks for the info ip. maybe when i get to orientation i will inquire into it. at least get a better idea of what the $$$ comes out to be.

Best advice... go company for a year or two until you get the hang of things. Driving a class 8 truck is a whole different world from what you're used to - and doing it efficiently enough to profit from a business takes experience.SierraSemiDriver Thanks this.

i was suppose to get a student but last weekend a trailer caught my driver side door pulling it forward. i was able to get it closed but now i cant open it. i want to get that fixed before i get someone on the truck with me. and all last month i was in and out of shops with engine problems. i am not having a very good summer.
