LOL Buying everything at the store there? Sounds great if I had the money to do it.... if there is stuff I need and I have it already, I am better off to bring it so I have it rather than not have the money and have to go with out.
That is something I find hilarious.... my kids get a list of things they need for camp down to the very last detail and that is for only 5 days. This is for 2 months and no one really says anything about what you need or don't need. The problem is if I bring too much, I am stuck with it and if I bring too little I will have to do without since I have very little funds to begin with. -
Here's a good place to start...

Pack in something soft-sided like a duffle. You'll need a smaller bag for your toilet gear, clean change of clothes, shower clogs - when going into a truckstop for a shower. A sleeping bag and a pillow (if you need one) since you'll be hot-bunking on the lower berth during training. Make sure you have some cold weather gear with you, but at this point you should be through training before you'll need anything serious in that line. It does snow in early September in the high Rockies and you may need something for extended work on a perishable dock. -
I did purchase a duffle that is pretty good sized. And I bought a pack back that I could carry in for showers and stuff. I even purchased a clothe laundry bag to put within the duffle for laundry.
If I was going to class for the week and then had the weekend to go home and get the right stuff.... LOL But since I have to know NOW what I need, it is a bit frustrating trying to guess. For example, do I need a flashlight? I read on another company website that a flashlight was required for pretrip inspections. Do I need a notebook? Should I bring two pairs of shoes as well as the clogs? Do I need rain gear? During the time I am not sleeping or driving, do I need a good book or my laptop? Should I bring my MP3 player? -
Yup to all. A multiple LED flashlight is a good deal - as bright as you can find.

Speaking of shoes...
Are there any state laws (other than California) that you _have_ to wear shoes when driving? Are there DOT regs to that effect?
I'm wondering if I can wear my sandals when I drive... I know in CA when I lived there (before the 90's) it was against the law to drive barefoot... still don't know why. Seems easier to notice changes in the 'ride' and the engine/tranny when barefoot

It is illegal in Louisiana to drive barefoot.

Most the instructors will tell you what you need before you go out with them. The rest is just up to you. Just remember you don't have a lot of room on the trucks.
I would recommend bringing a binder of sorts for the first week. You get a lot of papers throughout the week and it can help staying organized.
If you ain't sleeping or driving, you are watching the instructor drive. Though I personally brought a laptop and an ebook for those times where nothing is going on.
MP3 player isn't bad to bring. If you're lucky, you might get someone who lets you plug it in during your drive time.
Not to mention they can help if you got a roommate/instructor who snores.
The only thing they told me to bring besides clothes/bathroom stuff was a pair of work gloves. After your instructor phase, you get a chance to go home where you can then get anything else you feel you might need.
It's illegal in a handful of states. But consider this, considering all the dirt and grime you are stepping on outside your truck, truck stops, and so on. Would you really want that all over your feet? -
I wasn't _serious_ about 'barefoot'
I was just wondering...
Have a great week all

You should have something on your feet... I'll wear sandals at times. That being said, you're also the "face" of Prime with our customers and their clients. You need to be properly dressed when you show up.CadetTrucker Thanks this.
