Okay so I am aware that most if not all companies have a strict no firearm policy. But guess what, when a crackhead comes knocking at the door of your truck armed and willing to kill over a few bucks, its not the trucking execs who have their life on the line. So what I really want to know is, IS IT ACTUALLY ILLEGAL BY U.S LAW, or is it simply just a termination offense if caught by the company. I am one to risk the small chance of getting caught by the company having a legally owned and registered firearm and losing my job, but I am not so keen on getting serious criminal charges. I will always rather my fate lay in the hands of a jury then some street thug.

Sorry, not trying to hack on you, but you'll see how many threads there have been. Cut and dried, through discussion and with law enforcement assisting, we've determined that if you have a CHL, you can carry anywhere, anytime you have reciprocity... but we've also found that most company or lease outfits don't allow weapons of any kind in their trucks.

And, many shippers/receivers prohibit it.. but don't search your truck. If you go to a port, or FEMA HQ, like I did a few weeks back, your entire truck WILL be searched.

    BigJohn54 Thanks this.

I asked that question of a driver on what he does, and here is the answer I got, and I like it. Buy a can of Hornet Spray, the kind that shoots 30 feet. Anyone messes with ya, you spray them with that (in the face) and get the heck out of there. Someone sees the can in the truck, they will never think anything of it.

Ronin is right. This subject has been beat to death. There are no defintive answers here but Ronin gave you what I believe are the best facts. Unfortunately these threads always turn political in nature.

I had a flare gun that I took to a base and had to take it off base and leave it in some bushes and pick it up later. They said any firearm was considered the same. Also had hunting knife they kept at guard shack till I left.

There are no laws which specifically prohibit someone from having a gun in their truck. However.......each state has different laws. Not all states have reciprocity with other states. New York doesn't have reciprocity with any state and you cannot get a permit without being a resident. Military bases usually search your truck and some ports search your truck. There are even a few shippers who have sensitive cargo that may take a peak in your truck. You do not want to cross the Canadian border with a gun in your truck. Although there are no laws which specifically prohibit guns in a commercial vehicle, state laws vary. If you want to keep a gun in your truck then you should stay away from the border, military bases and ports. And I would not mention to anyone about having a gun in your truck.

Be very careful of the gun and your company.

I know of some that lost the lease and another who lost the job when the company found out about the weapon.
