Oversize covers everything from over height, over width, over weight, over length.

Wide Load is just another name for the over width loads.

We used to be required to use wide load signs in Ga. Nowdays, I believe its just oversized signs is all that can be used, at least that was the way it was 9 years ago when I used to do that sorta thing. It really didn't matter if it was too wide, too high or heavy... Oversized was what we used. I think it was the law to use only oversized. At least that's what I was told and never heard anything different from the 100's of scales I've crossed. I never was much into reading those dot handbooks

OVERSIZE is the most widely used banner now. Most states require it and will stop you if anything else is displayed. Lights, flags, escorts vary from state to state by height, weight, length. Your permits will normally spell out what is required and info is also in books at truck stops. If your not sure call and inquire or have your dispatch do so. If your stuff is in order OD is the way to go. Better pay and not boring.

oversize is a truck that requires a special permit due to its size exceeding legal limits be it height length width or weight

wide load is what you call the 500 lb supertrucker making his 4th trip back to the food table at the TA buffett

You are sure right about banners. Unloaded in terrible weather in CO. Tornado warning right overhead. Loaded up all chains, binders, etc. Got to Raton on 25 and NM scale gave me good talking to for forgetting banner on front of tractor. Hell I was getting hit w/hail and gale force winds. Swallowed hard and told him I was sorry instead of what I would have preferred to say.:biggrin_25523:
