Anybody know how much heavier a stainless trailer is compared to an equally sized and equipped trailer with painted sides? Considering a 48" reefer, stainless. Don't want to get killed with the weight of it, though.:biggrin_2552:

Yikes! Thanks for that. No way I'd buy a stainless.

Depends on the year. Newer stainless trailers will weigh about 500-ish pounds more. Older stainless trailers can weigh close to twice that more. The trend nowadays is a thinner gauge SS than years ago, hence the weight difference.

Stainless reefers look great, and I could maybe live with an extra 500 pounds, but it's the cost of that stainless that turns me off more than anything. As recently as 2 years ago, a brand spanking new trailer with SS sides cost $7,000 MORE than the same new trailer with painted sides.

I'd expect the same additional cost today, although I havent priced 'em out lately.

The price of cool ain't cheap man! Les2 and I haul a lot of stainless steel, you should spend some of that moldy money so we have more work to do!:biggrin_2559:

I'm sure if you ask nicely Les will lower his rate so your new trailer will be cheaper.:yes2557:

We have yet another reefer thread, and like clockwork my two favorite flatbeders show up...(grin)

You'd prolly need $200,000 in cargo insurance to haul it. And TARPS!!....hahahaha

Expect they're expensive to repair, too, when a Swift driver gouges the side of it.
