Truck Trailer Parking & Storage

I have never seen a list. I try to park at the shipper or receiver, and if that doesn't work out I try to find a T/S, rest area, or a Wally World that allows truck parking near my destination.

 

I have been checking around with a few companies and it seems that those I've talked to let you take the truck home during home time, or at least that's what they've told me via email. I live in an area out in the country, but have close neighbors ( my lot is almost an acre, but narrow and long, so turning around would be pretty hard), and was wondering if there are places you can park your truck while home.

For instance parking at a truck stop and have my wife meet me or would it be legal / safe to park it in a big lot like Wal-mart or something. I just don't want this to be the thing that holds me back.

More than likely Wal-mart might not like you leaveing your truck there for more than a day. AS far as parking it on your property why not just back it into your lot and thus remove the need to turn around. Another option that my uncle uses is he has a set up with a local farm owner that allowes him to park thr truck on his farm for a fee. He is there almost everynight so he pays monthly but you might be able to set it up on at a daily rate.

 

Good point about possibly renting a space out, there are lots of farms here.

My road and driveway are pretty narrow and at this point in time I don't see myself being able to maneuver a truck and trailer in that small of an area, but maybe once I finish school I'll feel more confident about it.

Also, make sure that local ordinances permit you to park a commercial vehicle in your neighborhood. Where I live I can't park a truck even on my own property.

However, they are not enforced correctly. They have been known to pick and choose. Potential lawsuit liability.

 

In your neck of the woods. You should be able to find parking. Just take a look around.

If all else fails. Speak to the guys and gals at the BP located on the north side of I-24 off exit 114. Several drivers park there for hometime.

I know that's a bit of a drive from you. But, it will give you a chance to find other arrangements closer to you.

 

Also depends on the kind of freight you're hauling. I got to park my truck and trailer at my apartment complex for one night. And the people complained saying my truck was on all night(reefer). So now I park at the local walmart, they let you park there for a week before they tow your truck out.
