It's difficult to find tanker jobs with less than 1 year exp, idealy OTR exp. There are some.
For example, here in the Tampa Bay area there's CTL that hires new school graduates. They probalby do that because no one really wants to work for that company. Stories abound about how they treat their drivers, their low pay, etc.
If there's a CDL school local to you, even if you didnt' attend there, I'd go and ask if they'd be willing to give you some names of any tanker outfits in your area that hire students. The worst they can say in NO.

I work for a company that flys me out to TX to drive each month. When I get there, I never leave Texas. That means I'm allowed to drive under TX DOT rules.
Work day: 15 hours
Drive: 12 hours
Break: 8 hours
Work week: 70 hours
And what Terry said above. -
From Catarina to Freer and back takes 4.5 hours. Add 56 minutes from the yard to Catarina then at the end of my loads it's 1.5 hours from Freer to the yard. Add in 2 fuel stops (trucks have 1 100 tank). I logged out with 21 minutes left after pulling 3 loads worth $504 to me. TX DOT rules are nice

First off let me thank you all for persuading me to make a move. I work for a wrecker service in fort worth. Its been a great job for the last 20 years, however, the owner is wanting to retire soon and i finally decided it was time to leave. I have no benefits here, and i work on commission. When the calls dont come in, i dont make a check. That wont do. I recently bought another house, i cant have any lapses in paychecks. Today, i finally decided to move to waterhauling. I made up my mind to drive to decatur, and hit Stallion and Nabors, since they are right next to each other. I never made it to Nabors. Stallion hired me on the spot, pending my mvr coming back clean. I've already taken the drug test and booze test and have the employee packet too. Ican start Friday. Gentlemen, thats 3 days from the time i walked in the door. Granted i have alot of experience driving trucks, but i only have 7 months in a tanker. They told me they are hurting for drivers right now. I suggest you go talk to them soon, if you want to do this. The interviewer told me they dont require a hazmat. Only a Tank Endorsement, and they will help you get that. Starting pay probably isnt the highest, but im happy with my $14.50 per hour. Its steady pay plus full benefits, and it beats the heck out of commission pay. So gents, especially waterhauler, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Congrat on the job. stallion is one of the bigger companies in this area. After you 90 days I would hit them up for atleast another 1.50. The goin rate up there is between 16-17. Things are much busier north of fort worth than they are on the south side.

will do thanks for the info.

14.50 per hour to start. Wow. Ever think of nd oil patch? Not many paying less than 20.00 up here. I've heard as high as $40.

I've been in N.D. since the first part of March and I am making 27.80 @ hour hauling water. Most, easiest money that I have ever made in my life.LIVIN THE DREAM AND MAKIN THE GREEN.

Do you know if any of those companies will hire out of towners, work them for a month or so, and let them take 4 or 5 days off? I'd be interest in hearing about that. And if it's not too much trouble, company names.
Thanks, -
How many hours a week are you getting? Is your company providing housing by chance?
