Yes, you pretty much get picked by your instructors.
The staff will try to help people find instructors, but the instructor has to actually say he/she wants to be with you, no one is automatically assigned.
Some instructors do a mini-interview of a sort to learn about you, why you want to be there, and so on. They will also explain how they are as an instructor, a driver, and someone you will spend time with.
Almost every week they also do a class to 'instruct' drivers to become instructors. You can also get these people as an instructor. My instructor is a new instructor, I'm his first student but he was also a trainer for 2 years so I was comfortable. After the past couple of days doing pad time with him, I have been very happy with my decision as he defiantly knows what he's doing and how to teach it.
Find someone you feel you can be comfortable with. Don't be afraid to ask them questions after they 'interview' you, you are a part of this and should be comfortable with who is going to teach you as opposed to taking the first person that shows up.
Thanks! I'll try to keep this updated as much as I can while on the road. My instructor doesn't have internet, so it's going to depend on where we stop for the night/day in the next coming weeks.

Yes/no and yes - from my limited knoledge of how this works. The instructors who are in house at the end of the orientation get the pick of the litter... but there is some assignment based on home location, smoking preference, etc. However, don't for one minute think that you're not being observed, and that doesn't play a role in who gets matched up with who.
It depends... its a conjuction of who is available based on when training is finished, home time, etc.CadetTrucker and zebcohobo Thank this. -
Seebs I must have just missed you at the mil building. I ate the tuna. AWESOME and great price. That storm was wicked. I met a guy on the bus that is coming back after some time to help out family. He is LO. We went over to the lease trucks. WOW that was cool for a NOOB like me. When that storm hit we took cover in an almost new cascadia. After the storm we saw the baby petes and the big petes. It was awesome. If you are around tomorrow maybe we can touch base. I understand you are busy.

Good luck man! I know this is the day you've been waiting on all week. Be safe and definitely post when you get a chance to let us know how the day went.

seebs it was great meeting you today. Thanks for the pretrip sheet.
For all of you considering PRIME I will say this based on what I have seen here those that do research (AKA do diligence) have a slight leg up. Get your permit before getting here it helps. Make contacts as networking is everything.
thank you all that have offered so much info hope I can help others in the future.Dennis the Menace, CadetTrucker, Rotten and 1 other person Thank this. -
If you get your permit before you go to Prime, how much does that help you? Like will you just leave out on the road as soon as you pass the simulator?
-
You wont leave as soon as you pass the simulator but it does free up extra time that would be spent studying for your permit. I havent started yet but someone who is there can give you more insight on it. But everyone has said its better to go with your permit in hand.
-
If you don't get your permit in the first week, you're done. That puts a lot of stress on folks, plus you will be spending all of your time studying for the permit tests. Its a much better plan to get that out of the way before you come. Make sure you check with your recruiter beforehand to ensure that there won't be any hitches - like whether you need the permanent permit or if the paper temporary is satisfactory.Dennis the Menace Thanks this.
