You start at 30 cents a mile, then after 6 months 34 cents, and after 6 more months 37 cents.
That's as I recall from a phone conversation, I don't have that in writing. -
Thank you my friend. Can you write about your experiences so far in a little more detail?
-
It was pretty straightforward. I applied for the one position available for new drivers in San Diego County, which was for a team driver.
They scheduled me for a phone interview, and while I was waiting for that to happen I took care of the haz-mat and TWIC requirements (finger printing and presenting various documents). A week later I got a message that my TWIC card was ready, so I already have that, and my driver license with haz mat endorsement should be arriving in the mail soon.
The phone interview was simple. I told him why I chose Schneider. He verified which driving school I went to, my driving record and criminal history. Then he gave me a tentative orientation date, and handed me off to a lady in the Schneider health department. She set me up with my drug screening which I took care of the next day at a local clinic.
I had to scan and send them two things, the long form from my drivers physical that I took to get my CDL, and also a team driver preference form.
Then a couple days later via email I received my Conditional Job Offer and my Final Instructions for orientation.
So now I know which motel I need to show up at Tuesday evening, and a list of what I need to bring with me. I'm just tying up any loose ends here at home, and enjoying the last few days of my extended vacation from work.
Did you guys go for your driving test yet? -
Not yet. But we got our permits and during the last three days we have been working on our driving skills. So far we have been practicing streight backing and 45 degree alleydock.
My best wishes for your new venture! ))) Good Luck!!! -
Thanks. If you can do the alley dock you'll be fine. Parallel parking is easy. Driving on the roads is fun as long as you don't forget to flip the splitter! I stalled it out the first time I let out the clutch during my DMV road test because the guy who had just gotten out of the truck had left it in high and I forgot to check. That was embarassing but I didn't get failed for it.

I'll keep that in mind!!!
CRST came in on thursday did their presentation. I liked their 20/10 program, I hope it is real... ))))
-
LL, the only thing I could find on the 20/10 program is that it's real, so long as you keep a team of 3 going. If you cannot find a third, you and your partner are running hard with a day or two off every 2-3 weeks, if you don't have a partner, you're sitting at home trying to find someone to run with......

I pray that people can figure out the alley dock, so the three of us can move on in training!!:

Don't get in a hurry when you get behind the wheel. Check out the instrument clusters, handle the controls and adjust mirrors, your seat ect. while your sitting there. It's makes it alot easier to know where everything is BEFORE you start moving. Not putting down pumaman but rookie mistake. First thing you do when grabbing that shifter is to FEEL where the selectors are. Good luck to both of you and don't get frustrated when you make mistakes, no one was a pro when they started.
Short story. Went for a drive test. 8 axle belly dump w/ the truck boss. So I get in this hotrod truck with more chrome on it than a Harley. Guy says lets go! I looked at him and said in a minute. Checked out dashboard, ect. Where do you want me to drive to? He says let's see if you can get it out of the yard. No problemo. Started grabbing gears and double clutching the shifts. As we roll out onto the highway I asked him what's the bridge on your quad axles on the trailer? Ummmm......he's the truck boss right. Anyways parked it back at the yard and started to walk to my car. He's yelling to me you'll be back tomorrow to start right. Yeah, see you tomorrow. He thought he was a Big Time Operator.

Okiedokie, thanks for words of encouragement... About your short story, did you go back the next day?
