On Monday, we got a call from the Pennsylvania State Police. It's the type of call no Safety Department ever wants to get.

LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. -- A fatal truck crash on Interstate 81 near mile marker 93 in Swatara Township, Lebanon County, closed a northbound lane for several hours on Monday.

Kimberlee Joanne, 51, was traveling northbound in a tractor-trailer in the left lane when the truck drifted to the side of the road, went through a guide rail and a small field, police said.

Joanne's truck continued traveling down a steep embankment before stopping against several trees at the base of the embankment, police said.

During the crash, the truck flipped onto the driver's side and was lodged underneath the railing unit at the base of the embankment.

Joanne was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene said the truck's speed did not appear to be excessive, and police think heavy rains may have played a part in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.

Kimee was a very good driver, a great funny personality and an asset to our company. I know her and she will be greatly missed by everyone here.

She was passing another truck at the time. The driver reported that he called to her on the CD to let her know she was clear. For unknown reasons she swerved to the left, through the guardrail and over an embankment. It is a total mystery why this happened. Investigations ruled out mechanical failure, and an autopsy ruled out medical reasons. It was raining at the time.

We are saddened and shocked.

LICKDALE - A 51-year-old Adams County woman was killed when the tractor-trailer she was driving crashed on I-81 in Swatara Township on Monday morning.

State police identified her as Kimberlee J. Cox of Fairfield. She was pronounced dead by a representative of the Lebanon County coroner at 12:15 p.m., about an hour after the crash, police said.
"Several witnesses related that the vehicle just drove off the road," said Trooper Chris Graf of the state police barracks in Jonestown.
The northbound rig went through the guardrail on the west side of the roadway and traveled about 250 feet down an embankment between the northbound and southbound lanes before striking several trees, state police at Jonestown said.
The Kenworth cab flipped onto its driver's side and became lodged underneath the 53-foot enclosed trailer, police said.
Cox, who was wearing a seat belt, was pinned under the overturned cab, Graf said.
The crash occurred about 11:19 a.m. near mile marker 93 on the northbound side of the highway. The location is about three miles north of the Lickdale exit and about a mile north of the bridge over the Swatara Creek.
Speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash, Graf said.
"Weather may have been a factor, because it was raining pretty hard at the time," he added.
State police said their investigation is continuing pending the results of further medical reports.
Lickdale Fire Co. Chief Paul Snyder said the crash was one of the worst he has seen in his 31 years with the fire company.
"I've never seen one this bad, with a vehicle down over like this that we couldn't get to the person," he said. "Being so far down over the embankment is making it hard to operate."
Speaking by phone from the scene about 3:15 p.m., Snyder said the trailer had been pulled to the top of the hill about a half-hour earlier. Cox's body earlier had been removed from the wreckage and was put in an ambulance to await the coroner, he said.
Northbound traffic was reduced to a single lane and diverted onto the right shoulder as the crash was investigated and the truck removed. As a result, traffic on the interstate was backed up to the I-81/I-78 split south of Lickdale.
"It's just amazing sitting here watching - people are hanging their cameras out their window taking pictures and rubbernecking," Snyder said. "That's a big safety issue, rubbernecking."
In addition to Lickdale, Jonestown's Perseverance, Fort Indiantown Gap, Bunker Hill, Bellegrove and Annville's Union Hose fire companies as well as First Aid and Safety Patrol and the Lebanon County Hazardous Materials Unit assisted at the scene.
Workers from PennDOT were also on the scene and used a circular saw to cut away the damaged portion of the guard rail. Two firefighters were treated for heat-related illnesses. Neither firefighter had to be taken to a hospital, and both returned to their companies, Snyder said.

I wonder if she blew out her left steer? it says no mechanical failure, but after a bad wreck and or rollover tires and rims tend to get wrecked too so maybe it was over looked....

AT, your right and that was my first guess, but surprisingly both front tires were intact.
