its a federal law

Pretty much everything built since 2008, has nothing to do with CA.

thanks guys.

I'm going to assume that you're asking about installing a DPF on an earlier truck than a 2008. CA is the first state to enact this, but a few of the New England states are following CA in these new laws. If you're thinking about registering your truck in another state, but want to keep working in CA, the law will not allow that either. I know parts of the original law have been changed since it passed a few years ago, but I can't tell you what you'll have to do to keep working in CA with your older truck.

Just register it in mexico...then you'll get to skirt some of those pesky U.S. laws.

iv'e been looking at a 2006 387. i'm looking to get out of CA and relocate. i know the dpf filters have been problem matic but who knows could have been a default one or they could have not been maintained like they should have been. so far iv'e been hearing i could run the truck till 2023 after that it's replace the engine with a 2010 engine or junk it. yea i know CA started all this smog emissions #### but its funny how everyone else follows behind em. i'm just gonna have to ask if it meets smog emissions before i go out there and look at it.

Why couldn't you just gut a DPF same as a catalytic converter?
-
Sure, but then your regen system sensors wouldn't work, and it would go into permanent regen mode. Not drivable at that point.
