#1- Does Crete ever require Canada? Will a driver that doesn't want to cross the border still be hired?
#2- I've heard that Crete drivers sometimes drag Shaffer reefers. Is it true? Do they provide training on those reefers, or just throw ya out there and tell ya to figure it out for yourself?
#3- I see they don't want drivers taking more than 4 days off. Is this a hard and fast rule? If I choose to work for 2 months then take a week off, would they work with me on that? Would I be required to turn in the truck?
#4- I thought I saw something on one of the Crete threads here that experienced drivers go out with a trainer. Was I understanding that right? Was that for drivers with limited experience or all drivers no matter what?
A few things I couldn't find on the Crete website

I was with Crete up until July of 08 so my info might be a bit out of date.
1) I don't remember. I went to Canada numerous times as I lived in Buffalo, NY up until 2004, primarily with General Mill's loads but I did 3 or 4 trips to Montreal out of Denver as well.
2)I hauled a Shaffer trailer exactly once in 9.5 years as a favor to dispatch. I must admit it is much more common to see a Crete truck pulling a Shaffer trailer these days.
3)Time off varied by what driver manager you had. I was out of the Indy terminal, Donna Jenkins was my DM and I would stay out 12 weeks or so then take 2 weeks off. However, other DM's had their own policies. Janelle was the DM in Salt Lake and she told me that she only allowed a maximum of 8 days off. I had heard from other drivers that the max they were allowed was 4, I think they were out of the Marietta terminal.
4) Experienced drivers were given a road test by whatever driver their DM could get to do it. I did a few myself, it was an easy $25 .1nonly Thanks this. -
Canada not required. Yes, there may be a time when you are asked to pull a reefer, and traing will be minimal. Usually over the phone or Qualcomm. 4 days max, but they will work with you if there are special circumstances. No trainer if you are experienced (1+) and know paper logs. Good company overall. Good luck.
1nonly and paoldschool Thank this. -
They aren't on electronic logs?

They're getting there....I started a week and a half ago, and I have an older truck with no e-logs. But I won't have this truck long, and my next one will likely have e-logs.
