Just have to share a story with everyone about my past few days.

I've been driving for Roehl for about 4 months now (my first OTR gig). Last Wednesday I parked at a truck stop in NJ. It was a nasty place. Woke up the next morning and it felt like something had bitten me on my left cheek. I didn't worry about it until I started to see a fair amount of swelling the next day.

I continued on and made my deliveries in MA and NY. The swelling is starting to get really bad. I'm beginning to think that maybe this isn't a bug bite.

I wake up Saturday morning and the swelling is even worse. I'm thinking I'll just tough it out. By Saturday afternoon my left eye is swollen shut and I look like Quasimoto from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (sp). Too dangerous for me to drive. I call my wife and let her know what's going on and I was going to stop at the next truck stop. My wife (without me knowing it) makes a call to the fuel desk at the T/A on I-90 exit 235. When I get there the restaurant manager,Tayler Kessler, is waiting to take me to the closest emergency room. He drives me to the hospital about 10 miles away. He gives me his phone numbers and tells me to call him when I'm done.

Turns out I had a MSRA (a really, really bad boil that is hard to treat) on my face. The hospital does their thing in about two hours. As I am walking out of the ER to call, Tayler walks in to check on me.

He drives me back to my truck and even comps my meal for the night. The hospital gave me perscriptions, but by the time I was done in the ER all of the pharmacies nearby were closed.

Today, Sunday, He shows up to pick me up and take me back to the ER for a follow-up. Afterwards he drives me to the local Rite-Aid to get the 'scripts filled. And that is where everything stands now.

If any of you stop in to the T/A on I-90, exit 235 in Kingsville, OH please be sure to tell any of the staff there how wonder the restaurant manager, Taylor Kessler is (and yes, I am sending a letter to the T/A corporate offices.)

Every now-and-then God sends you a gardian angel.

Brings a tear to my eye. I aint even gonna lie. When people do good things it makes me all sappy....

If I am ever close to that area I am going to MAKE IT A POINT TO STOP IN AND SHAKE HIS HAND. And I am going to comp him a beer! I don't know you or him but I do know a good deed when I hear of one.

    Tell him thanks.

There's decent people where ever ya go, sometimes you have to look for them, in this case you didn't. I'm not OTR any more, but I think I have been to that TA, and would definitely stop and say something. Isn't that listed as Austintown, or Austinburg, something similar?

Just looked it up, I'm thinking of the peelot at 223, sorry. Still, likely at the TA at one time or another.

Any idea where you got the MRSA? It wasn't the shady truck stop I'm quite sure as it doesn't happen that fast. Make sure you never set your razor down on the counter. Buy one with a holder or use a towel. NEVER use a truckstop's towels to dry off with or soap up with, bring your own from home, and by all means, wear shower shoes. MRSA is very nasty and you'll most likely battle it off and on for the rest of your life. If you see a boil pop up be proactive and have it looked at.

As far as the truckstop manager, that is truly going above and beyond and it's great to hear about it. A letter to OOIDA Landline's roses and raspberries will give this great guy some published recognition.

A year ago, in Prince William County, Virginia; (suburbs of Washington, DC) a football player died from MRSA. The lockerrooms in that jurisdiction were closed for a through scrubbing.
