Greetings! I'm a recent CDL graduate with a (hopefully not dumb) question about becoming a team driver. A friend of mine from a different state is interested in trucking and will be starting truck driver training next week. My question is: Do team drivers have to be from the same area, or can they live apart and still drive as a team? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Yes you can, just a little harder to co-ordinate home time. For instance, he goes home, you stay in his extra bedroom or a motel or the truck. And him doing the same when you go home. Another way of doing it, you get off the truck while he delivers the load and picks you up on the way back, assuming he is coming back.

Whats the big attraction about teaming? While you were with your trainer how clean was he? Did he respect you and not smoke, would not let you on the bottom bunk? Have a gas problem smelly foot problem, along with a shower problem and how was his music while you were sleeping?

Some companies will allow one guy to go solo while the other one is at home, but many won't. My partner and I live in the same city but I take home time sometimes in Indiana where I'm originally from for weddings or whatever. They let him drop me off and come back a few days later after doing some solo runs.

When I called around looking for jobs the majority said you had to take your home time together.

You can, but i wouldnt recommend you to, can become a problem between the two of you, you need to get home but he/she wants to go home, teaming is hard enough with any obsticles, personally Ill never team, Ive seen fist fights in t/s with teams, saw this not to long ago at the flying j in phoenix, team drivers fighting and police had to be called out. best of luck

Thank you all for the good advice! Based off of it I think it'd be better if we both just ran solo. Thanks again.
